The place of the hotel is a part of the Berlin history. With regard to geographical aspects the hotel is nearly at the border between the eastern- and western part of the city. The Berlin wall was only a few hundred meters far away. Once directly at the opposite of the hotel there was the biggest athletics- and football stadium of the GDR in Berlin. In 1950 it was built on the area of the former Garde-Füsilier-barracks in the Chausseestraße. Without further ado the stadium was built after the war by means of the debris of the historic Berlin city castle. At opening the sports- and event stadium at first received the name Walter-Ulbricht-stadium. When the former head of state fell from grace with Erich Honecker it was renamed into the stadium of the world youth. At present on the area the constructions of the center of the Federal Intelligence Service takes place. In 2008 the City 54 Hotel and Hostel was completely reconstructed and now has an active surface of 5000 sqm. The ambitious structuring and new high-class equipment converts a stay in our house into an event.
