Liked: The DDR style, especially in reception. Outside of building is very colourful. The staff were friendly. Good location, 100m from Ostbahnhof.

Disliked: Bathroom was unclean. Bunk beds were not very stable or comfortable.

Liked: Funny interior design, dorms in 3-room appartments, enough space to sit outside on the "beach".

Liked: dorms not cramped, enough bathrooms (2 in a 12 bed dorm) quite near to railway station and a LIDL Staff nice and friendly and let me use the fax for free.

Disliked: no real common room area. 'Bar' is a fridge and small area next to reception so not very cosy. No kitchen. Area around hostel no character though it was only 2 stops or 20 minute walk to Freidrichshain / Kreuzberg. The dorms were in a separate building and one night a group came in REALLY REALLY LOUD at 6 a.m.. I don't think this would have happened if we were in the same building as the reception.

Liked: Good hostel with some fun quirky touches like the trabants and period furnishing. Guests are arranged in flats, ours being sporadically empty apart from ourselves, meaning that it's not the easiest way to meet others. Of course, that may not concern you if your goal is to explore Berlin at your own pace, and that you can do very easily - the hostel is a minute's walk from Ostbahnhof. Comfortable beds and very good cleaning service.

Liked: I enjoyed the DDR era theme throughout the hostel and room. There were even books, magazines, and puzzles from the communist era.

Liked: The hostel's double rooms had the quality of an hotel. It prides itself on being a 'nostalgic trip back to the days of the GDR's cold war styling and it certainly doesn't fail. From the wallpaper to the dated stereo's in every room and the furniture, it has a wonderful atmosphere that doesn't feel contrived. Being only 200yards from the East side Gallery you really feel a part of East Germany's recent past, and the hostel's convenient eastern location (and the S Bahn station next door) makes it an ideal base for exploring Alexander Platz and Mitte as well as the rest of Berlin. It's certainly the sign of a good hostel when, in such an exciting place as Berlin, one of the highlights of the day is getting back to your lodgings!

Liked: Concept of 70s/80s kitsch DDR design done *very* well. Really impressive. Great central location by the Ostbahnhof and the N40 night bus stops right beside the building. Not much to do in the immediate area though (Berghain is next door though) so perhaps best for people who know their way around Berlin a little bit.

Liked: It is in the middle of what feels like no where, and since you are staying in a refurbished apartment building, you dont get to meet other people staying there, but the facilities were fine, just means you meet people out and about instead!

Liked: Really funky cool interior and atmosphere in Reception and with the lovely staff. Really thrilled with room, bright open and airy, liked the independant and simple apartment set up, very easy and safe to get in and out of hostle. Met great people loved the huge big lockers per person, free towels, free sheets and best of all use of a fantasticly good quality German bike for the week free of charge. Overall was really impressed, great place to stay, cheap cheerful, friendly groovy laid back people, and extremely close to S-Bahn especially convienient for getting to and from airport. With a bike or a good knowledge of Berlin's efficient train system, this is a superb place to stay!!****
