Liked: guy on desk very flexible, and managed to give myself and my partner a 2 bed room, even though we'd only booked 6 bed dorm. breakfasts were good, clean

Disliked: internet connections very dodgy, often took a long time to connect, or had to abort and try another computer, lots of viruses i think. didnt seem very friendly or have much common room area, like other hostels ive been to.

Liked: Breakfast was pretty good, real juice, not sugary concentrated rubbish, with cereal and croissants. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well. With hot milk not hot water! Luxury! Decor is pretty cool and it's actually a really nice area that it is set in. Loads of people moaned about the stairs both at the station and on the way up to the hostel but um, guys there is a lift at the station and if you don't want to walk the stairs to the hostel just detour around the block for an extra 30 seconds. :)

Disliked: Bunk beds were shakier than an earthquake, like, I swear, even breathing made them wobble. Shower was a bit moldy in the corners of the ceiling. Room was tiny and absolutely boling because they have the heating on... constantly. Also, one plugpoint, 4 people, 2 laptops, 4 ipods, 1 mobile phone. You do the math guys.

Liked: One staff member super helpful and accommodating.

Disliked: Crammed rooms with not enough space to put your things. Ensuite bathroom not so nice - little grubby and mouldy with no hot water. A little bit better down the hallway. No stairs up to top bunk. Walls need a scub... Wifi only in the common room - not conducive if you need to get some work done..

Liked: Its location in Montmartre - beautiful neighbourhood, and 20 minutes to Gare du Nord by Metro... Very nice looking building inside and out. Free breakfast was quite generous. Staff were friendly and helpful - I had to cancel my first night's stay at short notice, and they did it with no fuss and no charge. To enjoy Paris, its attractions, and the Parisians you just have to make a little effort to speak in French - no matter how limited your knowledge of the language is, your experience will be far better for it.

Disliked: Inconsistent hot water and water pressure in the showers. Rooms were very small as were the showers. No secure storage for luggage, or at least items such as computers/iPod's etc... The 2am lockout was rather juvenile, however they must have a good reason for it, non?

Liked: It has a decent breakfast with no limit on how much you can eat plus juice, tea and coffee. The location is also great, it's impossible to stay near every monument in Paris because it's a huge city but Montemarte is a great neighbourhood to stay in and is full of caffes and cheap restaurants.

Disliked: The kitchen is absolutely tiny and the hostel is huge. There is also no common room in the hostel (there are a couple of couches at reception but this hardly counts) which is worsened by the fact that the dorms are incredibly cramped and they have a lockout from 11-4pm.

Liked: It's 3 min close to the metro, has a bistro at the corner and several supermarkets in the proximity. It has a no alcohol and noise policy inside which is useful for keeping the comfort.

Disliked: When coming on Rue Lamarck from the metro, one has to climb more than 50 stairs, and this might be difficult if carrying luggage. I suggest to take the stairs behind the metro station Lamarck and after that Rue Cualaincourt, it's easier.

Liked: We drove through some sketchy areas in the cab to get to the hostel, but were relieved when we saw that it was in a nice area. I thought we had booked a 10-person dorm for our group of 3, but they gave us our own room with four beds that we did not have to share. The staff wasn't overly friendly, but nice enough. The lobby area is nice with a few computers that could be very slow at times. The room was fairly clean. Only a shower, no toilet in the room but a clean one was right across the hall. The best part of the stay was the free breakfast in a very nice downstairs room. The croissant was delicious, and other types of bread, toast, and cereal was offered. There was also orange juice (excellent!) tea, coffee, and hot chocolate that you could make with hot milk. Even though the hostel is out of the city, it's a short walk to the Sacre Coeur, which is a beautiful cathedral on a hill that offers truly breathtaking views of the entire city. There is also a nice cafe/bar and bakery right outside the door.

Disliked: I would absolutely stay here again but some things could be improved. We rented sheets and towels for 1 euro each, but it turns out even those were had stains of who-knows-what on them. Definitely bring your own sheets and towels if you can. The 2 am curfew is also inconvenient but that seems to be the standard at most places.
