Liked: I liked the staff, they were very friendly. I also enjoyed the food available, and thought the general layout of the hostel and bar was very good.

Disliked: I had just come from another hostel in Amsterdam which felt a bit more comfortable and relaxed, the rooms were more like bedrooms in a house, in Paris it felt slightly more like a hotel so slightly less personal.

Liked: The location was great-- in a very non-touristy area, right on the canal, close to two different Metro lines, near a couple of grocery stores and bakeries. Key cards for security, elevator (slow and a little wonky) for hauling baggage around. Pretty clean, though the push-button showers usually had loads of hair in the drains.

Disliked: The internet cafe had 9 computers, only 3 of which worked all week, then they closed the cafe to replace all the computers during the last two nights of my stay, which meant I had to borrow a roommate's computer to check my travel information. Knocking off the internet for two days is rough, even though most of the hostel seemed to have their own laptops. Also: internet time costs money if you want to use their computers, which was a surprise to me. Everything else I disliked about St Christopher's is because it wasn't the kind of hostel I wanted. It was huge, pretty loud, kind of a party hostel. I prefer smaller, independent hostels that seek to accommodate single travelers rather than groups. I also prefer to have a kitchen and fridge to make cheap meals, which St Christopher's does not have. This hostel does not suck, but it was absolutely not what I was looking for. I would not stay at another St Christopher's.

Liked: St. Christopher's was incredibly clean, secure, and friendly! I was instantly greeted by a wonderful staff member who made me feel instantly at home -- a big deal for a single, female traveller who doesn't speak a lick of French. The bar was great and very comfortable; a fantastic resource for someone who would like to try French food, but is too nervous to go into a "real" French restaurant :) Overall, the hostel had a marvelous atmosphere, and its canal-side location was brilliant and beautiful. It was also not too far from the metro, which made it ideal for seeing Paris! I was given an extremely helpful "welcome pack" at reception, with metro directions for common tourist destinations, and when I had walked all day, I actually looked forward to coming back to the hostel for a relaxing supper and some time to myself -- the rooms, though they accommodated several travellers at once, were spacious and private enough (thanks to curtains around each of the beds) that I felt I had space to unwind. An extremely uncommon feature in a hostel! I would definitely stay at a St. Christopher's again!

Disliked: The neighborhood felt a bit uncomfortable, as there was quite a bit of graffiti in the area -- however, nothing ever happened, and I never felt threatened while walking through the area, even at night. Internet was a bit expensive (1 euro for 15 minutes of Internet access), but in the grand scheme of life, I'll take it if I can have the other amenities that this hostel offers.

Liked: It was a good atmosphere and very clean except for the bag storage room which stunk.

Disliked: The noisy lockers under the beds. The staff were very rude. Breakfast should at least be served until 10.30. When asking if I could have a bowl at 2 mins past 10am and mind you the cereals were still up on the bar. The staff member snapped and said "No! read the back of your door. Breakfast finishes at 10am!!!" Give me a break considering the breakfast you are served it should be available 24/7 and remember it is included in your payment for the room.

Liked: Excellent location and very easy to find. The rooms were good size and the curtains for the bed in shared dorm was good.

Disliked: Other guests in the shared dorm were a bit disrespectful to those trying to sleep by turning on lights etc but that is to be expected in a shared dorm.

Liked: Not too much to be honest.

Disliked: This is basically a college dormitory in a Parisian Ghetto. They seem to hoard their guest--or rather, the caliber of the guest is such that instead of seeing the city they just drink in the hostels bar. The part of town is particularly bad. To top it off I had some of my things stolen here. For the price there are other hostels you should check out that are cheaper and actually in Paris proper.

Liked: Very clean, well organised hostel. Good beds and facilities etc. Breakfast is pretty decent. Would definitly stay again. Not in walking distance to any Paris attractions, but easily connected with metro etc.

Disliked: Staff were mostly very good. The key deposit is assumed that you will not get it back and donate it to charity. Which is fine, but if you do request it back, I think its unfair how the staff get quite hostile and rude with you for not donating it. It is not their place to judge and berate how people want/need to spend their money.

Liked: Reasonably close to the centre of paris, and near to a Biocoop, the dining /bar area looked out onto a canal. The paved promenade on either side of the water, from whence it was only a short stroll to either of three metros, was pretty and again attested to the hostel's lovely location. Near several supermarkets, a humped pedestrian bridge, plus a cinema/ theatre facility, I didn't see any wretched dog poop for which Paris is naturally famed. The facade of the building was shared with an adjacent holiday inn of some kind, and was wrapped in a modern steel-fabricated ribbon, which when I first sighted got me thinking that the structure was undergoing some kind of crazed renovation by some fly-by-night nice boys.

Disliked: There was absolutely no kitchen facility whatsoever. The guy at reception hinted that this followed form the hostel's vast size - at some 350 rooms - but frankly I've stayed at large hostels elsewhere, and here I'm thinking of Scotland, maybe in Glasgow if my memory hasn't strayed too far, which did have a pretty usefully sized one next to its ultra-large canteen area. The lift broke down one day, and I observed that the receptionist was slightly brusque - bordering on rude - to a German speaking visitor who simply had mentioned that people were trapped in the metal box some stories up, regardless that the lift itself was modern and allowed views onto the canal during its incessant travels up and down its well. There was also indequate or minimal consideration given over to recycling facilities in the hostel, unlike hostels in Germany which DON'T encourage you to take from the earth and subsequently send things into the city of landfill .
