"Really lovely and helpful staff particularly the owner, Tutu, who was very welcoming and hospitable. The rooms are very clean and, although basic, have character. There was a limited menu in the adjoining restaurant/bar…"Read all Atelefugne reviews

Established in 1963, Atelefugne is Simply put ANTIQUE. Easy on the pockets, Affordable is the motto.
Atelefugne consists of a local bar, a traditional restaurant and 23 rooms. Most of the rooms are shared bath and less than a handful en-suites. It is also work-in-progress, a 50 year old property needs some love and care.
What Atelefugne is not:
Atelefugne is not a four star, it's not a three star, it's not even a zero star but a well liked, very local, low budget hostel. It's not a high rise, it's not even a mid rise, it's a mini ramp rise. It's not remotely fancy so if you hold off on your expectations, you might actually be pleasantly surprised.
Where Atelefugne is:
Atelefugne is located in Kera, Bulgaria area. Long ago, Bulgaria Embassy was around the corner. So habitually, the surrounding is known as Bulgaria area. However, if you google map it, it's house number 418, Tanzania Street. Atelefugne is 7.3 km from Bole International Airport.
What Atelefugne provides:
Atelefugne provides a bar that serves plenty local beers. Most popular being St George, followed by Dashen. But there is also Harar, Bedele and Meta. Atelefugne also serves Royal Dashen draught beer.
Atelefugne provides a traditional restaurant. The most popular is the spicy yebeg wot (lamb stew) among meat dishes and beyayenetu (veggie combo) on fasting days, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tegabino (smoothed out cheakpeas) is delicious and that is served always.
Atelefugne provides clean rooms, full sized bed in smaller rooms, queen sized bed in the larger ones. Rooms come in with traditional bedcovers, curtains, local paintings, old wooden floors, old wooden chairs and cabinets. Atelefugne provides basic necessities such as toiletries and a free WiFi.
What Atelefugne does not provide:
Atelefugne does not provide airport pickup. Atelefugne does not provide burgers or pizzas. Atelefugne does not provide extra beds. And above all, it does not provide English as a first language.
What's in the surrounding:
If you are compelled to walking, there are a few hot spots in the area. For one, Sishu burger is around the corner (addictive). A bit pricey but by far the best burger in town. The most famous Temoka Coffee, is not too far off either, perhaps a good 20 minutes walk. Otherwise, you can reach most destinations by hailing a blue/white minibus right outside. If you prefer a private ride, contract taxis are stationed across the street.
Also in the surrounding are:
St. Michael Church
African Union Headquarters
Banks - Dashen Bank directly across the street, Awash and Commercial Banks within close proximity.
What to expect:
Frequent power outages, not to worry there is a generator.
Frequent water shortages, truck loads of patience required.
No formal reception desk.
Friendly staff that would invent English to get your order:).
Owner/Manager fluent in English.
Other things you should know..
Once you get the key to your room, it is yours until you leave. No one will enter it unless you request a cleanup. The room will be cleaned in your presence or if you feel comfortable, leave key with management.
Atelefugne is open to compliments, constructive criticism, improvements, travel write-ups, referrals.
