Liked: I'd prefer not to have to pay for internet! I also wanted proper milk with my breakfast, but oh well! There weren't many people around when I was there. Great location! The staff were a bit aloof.

Liked: The beds were surprisingly comfortable. Free coffee, tea, and toast available 24 hours. Staff was helpful for what I needed. Toilets and Showers very clean.

Liked: Great location northern quarter is awesome. Also the pub crawls through the hostel were great met some amazing people. The hostel was over pretty clean but the rooms were always full of garbage from other travelers. Cool place friendly people and great location.

Liked: Great location, close to some bars and walking distance to all parts of the centre and most clubs. Very nice staff and a great big common room with kitchen, tables, couches, internet, etc. Would stay there again next time I go to Manchester.

Liked: It's very close to the station and right in the middle of the city centre so great for whatever pubs, venues you're going to and it's clean, safe and good value for money.

Liked: Free tea, toast, spreads and coffee 24 hours - good for those on a tight budget, free wifi on the ground floor 24 hours, large bedrooms with space for your bags as well as you and your roomates. Good showers.It would have been nice to have a lift for guest use however if you have a lot of stuff, staff will accompany you up in the service lift when you arrive if you ask nicely. The showers have no temperature control so occasionally they run a little too hot and there is nothing to do but grin and bear it. No remote control for the tv - such a little thing but it takes a long time fr anyone to change the channels otherwise, often they give up and just watch whatever rubbish is on the channel they land on.

Liked: I stayed at the Hatters in April for 2 weeks after an initial booking through hostelbookers.com. This is the cleanest hostel I have ever stayed in in 3 years of backpacking and there was never any wait to use the communal showers - plenty of facilities for everyone. The staff are helpful though very quiet which can make them difficult to understand sometimes but I've dealt with worse! The security is phenomenal - you must buzz to get in but they are very aware, esp late at night, of who is staying and who is a visitor and as access to your room is by keycard there is no chance of your things going missing (unless it is someone in your own room - lol). I stayed in 8 bed mixed dorms and a 10 bed female dorm during my stay - these varied slightly but were mostly of a reasonable size so there was room for your bags without tripping over each other. Room 101 is an 8 bed next to the tv room - this could be noisy especially at the weekends but if you are not a light sleeper, this was one of the biggest 8 beds I stayed in. There is power in all the rooms. The tv room is large enough for plenty of backpackers. The kitchen is small and the dining area is huge! However this was not a problem when it came to cooking as everyone seemed to be running on different schedules. There are 2 more sofas in the dining area so you can chill while waiting to move on, or waiting for your room to be ready on arrival, or even to meet other backpackers. The Pluses: excellent bathrooms, good sized rooms, no wait for showers to be free, free tea, toast and coffee all day as promised with a choice of jams, free wifi on the ground floor though you have to ask as it is not advertised or obvious. Close to everything and the staff are able to recomend pubs and clubs locally which is good if you are new becuase of the huge number around about. The Cons - No remote for the TV in the tv room, it is cheaper to book online than direct with the hostel, small kitchen, no laundry area though there is a laundrette nearby, The hostel do not really advertise the things on offer - you have to ask to find out anything. Staff could smile once in a while. No atmosphere at all although the people I did meet were nice enough and it wa easy to get talking to them. Prices are high compared to London hostels but you are getting a hostel of higher standards than say in Australia or New Zealand.
