Liked: The bar is really a nice place to chill.. they have student discounts all day for their menu.. london lager is really a nice drink the the pizzas are definitely worth trying! The people were all really friendly..

Disliked: The rooms were by far one of the smallest I've stayed anywhere.. 12 people in a room and with 4 rooms in full capacity, that equals to 48 people.. the worse part is that these 48 or so have to compete to use the 2 toilets and bathrooms that were available on the room level..

Liked: The staff is friendly - that's all.

Disliked: Hygiene is awful. Drainage in shower room is terrible and it is extremely dirty. So are the bed linen, my friend got allergic to the dust. The room is too small with way too many people (9 people in a room smaller than 200ft). I feel like refugee. You cannot sit straight on the bed, and on the lowest level you are at the level of the floor and you will be smelling the shoes of all other people - you can imagine how disgusting it could be. Ventilation is bad. No luggage storage room available. Below the rooms it is a bar - you need to go through the the pub everytime you return to the room - it is locked at late night, you don't have the code nor key, and the doorbell is broken - only thing you can rely on to return to the hostel at night is that the staff or anyone inside would notice you knocking the door or waving outside the window. It is AWFUL and no one should deserve to stay in such a bad place - and considering that it is not even cheap for the price of normal hostel in London. It does not worth the price - you can get much better place with a lower price.

Liked: Excellent location, walked to most of the main sites. Free breakfast and 24 hour reception. They store your luggage for free before check in. Nice pub downstairs with good pizza.

Disliked: No floor space so nowhere to put your luggage in the room. The only option is to store it downstairs near the bar which is a long way from the rooms and requires walking outside. Could do with some more bathrooms.

Liked: They have an easy and convenient check in, check out system. Unlike another hostel I stayed with in London where you could only check out at 9am, I almost missed my bus to the airport that day due to waiting for someone to show up at the reception desk. Fresh@The Steam Engine however, have a 24 hour check out desk which was very convenient for me. The Hostel has a comfortable atmosphere and isn't too crowded.

Disliked: No complaints.

Liked: It was very clean. There are lockers in the rooms and outside the rooms, make sure to bring a lock. The neighborhood felt safe and comfortable for being so close to everything. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There are 2 shared bathrooms, but never had to wait long to use one. Was a pretty quiet sleeping place and not bad for having a 3 level bunk beds.

Disliked: Danel left no negative feedback.

Liked: £15 for a pleasant enough place in central London is good value for money. The location was perfect for my plans and I imagine good if you want to do the typical tourist stuff. It was easy enough to get to and find. The area had a decent amount of shops, pubs and places to eat within easy walking distance. The mattress and pillow were good quality and the sheets were clean. There are plenty of showers which were clean, a good size, good water pressure and electric so always hot enough. Doors are secured with codes and always closed so no security concerns (apart from perhaps the luggage room- see below). The bar downstairs is a bit of a old man pub, perhaps foreigners will find it nice to hang out in something fairly stereotypical? It had a slightly odd mix of locals and hostel visitors. Not the sort of place you'd party but friendly and good to get chatting to people. The pool is free which again is good for getting to meet people. They give you a half price drink voucher when you check in which is nice. The free breakfast is basic but all you need- cereal, toast, tea and coffee. If you aren't going to allow food then I guess offering breakfast is only decent. All the staff I encountered were pleasant. They seemed to all actually enjoy their jobs which makes a big difference. They were on it with saying 'hello' as you arrived which as you arrive into what looks like just a pub makes a particular difference.

Disliked: They couldn't have fitted any more beds into the room if they tried- literally. There was no space to put luggage so bags had to be left lying around the floor. With 4 sets of triple bunks this meant the very limited floor space was very cluttered. There are small lockers outside the room for valuable but not enough for one each. The overcrowding in the room meant at night the room was very quickly smelly and clammy and in the morning we were dancing round each other (and all of our bags) to get ready. There was (according to a sign anyway, I never looked) additional lockers in the luggage room which was back downstairs and through the bar so not exactly convenient. The sign on the door did say the luggage room was locked but I saw people come and go without a key, it was just left open which would worry me given it's off the bar. I understand now allowing drink given they have a bar but a no food rule (the only food the bar sells is pizza and nuts) is beyond impractical for the average person staying in a hostel. It is a former flat above the pub and overall it feels like if it were converted to any sort of accomedation it should have been a B&B but they decided to go for a hostel because they'd make more by squeezing beds in. It was fine for one night when I just wanted a place to sleep and a good location but I wouldn't have wanted to stay there longer.
