Liked: The staff was super-friendly and always happy to help. The breakfast that's being offerd for 1,50 pounds is well worth it's money. Great location: within walking distance to Madame Tusseauds, Hyde Park and Portobello Road

Disliked: it was hard to find mirrors...don't ask about mirror + plug. In the end we found one after all. There's low water pressure on the third floor, so try and get a room further down.

Liked: Fun friendly atmosphere downstairs at reception loved alot especially the staff working there jonathan the manager included!! Location was centtral rooms were tidy and silent at night whith a lively bar downstairs

Liked: Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Scott in particular was very helpful and a great host. Location is also good if you're going to be using the underground.

Disliked: Too few showers and bathrooms and their overall cleanliness could've been a bit better.

Liked: This place has a very home like atmosphere... The staff makes you feel very welcome and are super helpful...... I strongly reccomend staying at this hostel.... There is a good bar downstairs and the barman Scott pours one hell of a pint.....

Liked: Next to nothing. The only thing I can think of that was good, was that it was close to tube stations and quite central.

Disliked: I have being travelling around Europe for 6 months now and this has been the WORST hostel I've stayed in. The 100% reviews on this website are clearly written by either friends or family of the owners, or people who are used to sleeping on a bed of nails. Usually I don't bother with these reviews but today I'm taking the time out to do so because it was just so very disappointing! Where to start? When we arrived, the receptionist at the time was quick to ask for payment, but failed to let us know any basic information about the hostel. We had to ask questions such as "are there lockers?" "what time is breakfast." etc. This website also says that lockers and luggage storage is free/included, where in fact, it isn't! The dorm - my 3 friends and I shared an 8 bed dorm. There was hardly any room to put our rucksacks and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. you could feel the springs in your back, not to mention the squeeky-ness of the bunks every time you moved. On the bottom bunk of my friends bed there were 5 planks missing, creating a nice big ditch to sleep in - horrible! The shower facilities - 50 beds in the hostel and only 3 working showers. Shower areas were quite small but that wasn't the main concern, instead - the water trickles out, no pressure at all. Toilets were also constantly 'out of order.' Downstairs bar - absolutely NO atmosphere. Music is always on very low and staff aren't very interactive and lack good communication. Not once when we would walk in after a day out would we be greeted with "hi, how was your day?" Extras - Internet drops in and out, especially in the rooms. some nights we couldn't get on at all. Overall - A very poorly run and organised hostel. I would not recommend to anyone. Even for 17 quid a night, you should at least be granted a decent mattress to sleep on and a nice hot shower!

Liked: Ive been meaning to write this review for some time! It was definetly a very memorable stay, me and my friend stayed here while travelling around europe during the summer. The late night bar and the group of staff made the hostel alot more vibrant. The location is the reason why we booked into the phoenix initally, however after staying here i would have to say the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of the hostel is the best thing going for it. Big thanks to becc jonathan and nathan for some really good nights out and helping us explore London.

Disliked: No kitchen from what i remember, although it may have changed, I would check the website.

Liked: Stayed with my friends over the summer holidays in London. Chose this hostel because of its central location. Staff were extra helpful and great to go out with at night, dean and grimesy were so much fun thanks guys!!! x

Disliked: You couldnt drink in your room :( but on the plus the drinks downstairs were pretty damn cheap!

Liked: We travelled from the US last year and loved this hostel and the staff working at it. jonathan, dean and girls were especially helpful and really fun to go out with. Made some great friends here, thanks for a great time phoenix family! x

Liked: If you're looking for a fun hostel with great location, definitely stay here. Being a smaller hostel with its own pub, I got to meet heaps of people and had a great time. Staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, espicially Scotty, Stacey, Maria and Grimes.

Disliked: That I had to leave!

Liked: I had a great time staying at Phoenix. It was comfortable,clean,secure, very very centrally located and was an overall great experience. The staff is very nice and cordial. Scott in particular was very helpful. The airlines had lost my bag. He helped me settle in and was helpful all the way through. There is a pub downstairs and it provides for a nice area to hangout and meet new people. It is literally 5 minutes from Marylbourne and Edgeware street station. Great food choices all around. Overall very good experience and great value for money. They do offer cheap breakfast , although i did not have any. I met great wonderful people living here. I will definitely stay here on my next visit.

Disliked: Wish there were more choices of beers in the pub downstairs. One of the bathroom's water pressure was a little weak. I used another one and it was fine. Overall, a good experience...so nothing bad to say.

Liked: Great staff Stacey who works breakfast most of the time was great. Friendly staff overall and easy to meet people. Cheap drinks down stairs. Showers always hot. Close to two tubes and a tesco.

Disliked: No kitchen but did have refrigerater/freezer and microwave.

Liked: Traveled from Switzerland last year with my friends and had some great nights at the bar with jonathan and nath. Love the bar and fireplace was great, drinks were really cheap!! Thanks guys for a great stay x

Liked: The bed and bathrooms were very clean. I appreciated that a lot. The staff were friendly and helpful. The price was good. It was easy to find.

Disliked: I prefer an all-male dorm, and these were apparently all mixed. The location is probably good for some; my interests were more toward Trafalgar and Westminster, and it was a longish walk to those places.

Liked: Stayed here sometime ago. It has a really clean and friendly atmosphere and the facilities are superb!!! Thanks to jonathan for a great weekend going out at night :) Definetly made some great friends in england

Liked: Decent location

Disliked: £3 charge for a towel and an additional £4 charge to use a tiny locker. There is no choice to use your own padlock either. It was also pretty dirty and the mattresses are awful. There was also a lack of atmosphere in the hostel with the staff not overly approachable. Probably the most overpriced hostel I've stayed in.

Liked: Location was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful

Disliked: The building is pretty much falling apart and needs to be completely renovated. If you just want a bed in a central location the hostel is fine. If you want to stay somewhere comfortable with good facilities such as a kitchen and decent size, modern bathrooms and showers this is certainly not for you!
