quite clean, spacy quiet rooms, nice wooden bunks

Great self-catering facilities. Nice environment to hang out and meet people. Internet is rather expensive, but so is everything else in London. The bathrooms are something to be desired, but they were being worked on at the time, so maybe they will be fine in the future.

the staff was so friendly and the social group of "regulars" was so strong- staff would hang out even when not working and the lounge and kitchen were always great places to find someone to talk to! kept my laptop and passport in the safe and never worried about them! i was truely sad to leave the astor kensington, it was a fabulous two weeks!

The breakfast is a fantastic buffet, and the large kitchen allows me to buy takeaways or cook. There's lots of area to rest and chat, good place to meet people. The beds are clean and comfortable. I will definitely come back again.

good location

The 3 staff I came in contact with were very friendly and helpful... especially Marika- she rocked! They had good kithcen facilities- plus the free breakfast was toast/ cereal/ apples/ oranges and tea/ coffee which was nice. There were no timers on the (hot!)showers which was sooo good! Mattress firm/ comfy... linen fresh and clean (towel not incl. tho so don't forget yours!) £1 per 40 min. internet (not great value)or free wireless in common room... Location was excellent: about 5 min. from Gloucester Rd tube station or if you prefer to walk: approx. half hr leisurely walk to Victoria and Albert Museum (on the same rd as hostel) or about 2 hrs. to Buckingham Palace/ Trafalgar Square etc. Easy walks as all flat and signed (you can buy a map of London from hostel for £1). My room (33) was a bit noisy from traffic but nothing major... I'm a fairly heavy sleeper though :) There was also a power point in the room which was handy to recharge stuff... There were no lockable storage lockers available though there were cupboards... so relying on trustworthiness of fellow guests- however I didn't have any problems :) This hostel is very old (though is currently getting a new paint job) so keep that in mind but overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great location with a great/ friendly atmosphere :)

Very well kept, always very clean. Reasonably quiet. Good bedrooms - 10 bed dorms are huge! Plenty of space and storage space. Free wireless (although a little sporadic).

The hostel was very nice, clean, comfortable, a little noisy some nights, but it didnt bother my sleep at all

Really friendly staff with a good atmosphere. It was pretty much what you want from a hostel. The rooms were nice, breakfast adequate, cost was cheap. The only downside was the wait for a bathroom in the morning and believe it or not - our shower only seemed to have HOT water, which made it difficult to wash without burning yourself! In all, I would defo stay there again, and recommend it to others.

10 June 2007
The hostel's location was first class and getting to all major tourist attractions was easy because of the close underground stations. The staff were friendly and the kitchen space was great. My door was broken in the dorm and didn't lock but I still felt save leaving my belongings there while I was out.
