If you want to walk, climb, swim, sail, cycle, motor cycle, tour or just relax in the glorious scenery of The Lake District National Park, then Ambleside Backpackers is a great place to stay. Ambleside has lots of pubs and restaurant's, museum, shops, a beautiful church and a waterfall to look at

Ambleside Backpackers offers the best backpacker facilities in the area:

* Ideally situated, 5 minutes from bus stop and Ambleside town centre.
* Good bus service to most towns, villages and lakes in the National Park
* 66 beds in a large, character Lakeland cottage
* Squeaky floors and prehistoric plumbing
* Clean, comfortable and warm
* Manager on site, Doors locked at midnight
* Mountain, fell & valley walks almost from the doorstep
* Free Internet access morning and evening
* Piano in lounge (its old and cranky - but in tune)
* Windows rattle in gales and steps and stairs everywhere.
* Includes light breakfast and tea/ coffee
*Cyclists and motor cyclists welcome
* Cycle hire in village
* The building has got character!!!.

Sleeping accommodation is in single sex or mixed dormitories, all with wash basins and fine fell views (if you stand up in the attic rooms!). There are male and female shower rooms, also lockers and clothes wash/drying facilities and a drying room. A very comfortable lounge, a great kitchen for guest use and a pleasant dining room
Please note:
We do not accept stag/hen parties or drinking groups and we do ask that you will be quiet after 11pm both inside and outside the hostel.
Large single sex groups may be asked to provide info on activities at booking.
We will do our best to provide hostel accommodation as described above at all times however our liability shall be limited to a refund of booking value if we can not provide this accommodation for any reason beyond our control. You may be in a larger dorm than the number of spaces shown on the booking engine. If this might be a problem for you please phone Ambleside Backpackers before booking. Please do not book into a mixed dorm unless you are a mixed group or couple. Do NOT book on this site if your party contains children.

Accommodation Information

We have dorms with 2, 4, 6. 7, 12 and 14 beds (all bunks) so most party sizes can be accommodated in a room to yourselves or in male female or mixed dorms if you are ok with other people. Each dorm has a wash basin and there are secure lockers at reception should you want to store your laptop etc. We have male and female showers and W/C's.
We have a fine lounge with fire, comfy chairs and piano (TV too), a plesant dining room and a large well equipped kitchen for you to use.
There is a laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer, and a drying room for drying wet gear if its been raining outside.

Location Information

Easy access to all areas of the Lake District by car, bus, steamer and train, you can stay here and get on with enjoying the scenery.
There are wonderful walks in all directions from the hostel door, or you can drive, take a bus to other areas to tackle different walks or mountains. many walks can be tackled in normal footwear - however the higher hills require walking gear and ice axes and crampons in the winter.
You can visit Beatrix Potter houses and attractions not to mention Wordsworth's home and other famous places.
Museums and steamer trips can be walked to and there is a great selection of pub and restaurants, even a night club open some nights!
