Facilities - We have 2 dorm rooms which offer accommodation in bunk beds, and 3 twin rooms (one can be a triple) and a single. We also have a family en-suite room with a double bed and 2 singles.
We are happy to accept groups. We have tent camping as well, with tents for hire at busy times, or for larger groups
There are toilets and hot showers as well as a kitchen and common room area. There is a TV room also. Full Cumbrian breakfasts and other meals are available at a good price. There is free WI-FI internet access. We offer bed and breakfast accommodation as well.
We offer:
* - luxury en-suite accommodation * - rooms with shared bathroom facilities * - dormitory room for groups, and visitors on a tighter budget * - camping facilities on our 2 acre paddock at the back of the Lodge
We have mountain biking hire on site, at a discount for guests. We also offer discounts on longer stays and for groups. We have an orienteering course just outside the door. The hostel is situated directly on the Wainwright Coast to Coast path, and is ideal for a stopover. We are ideal for many Lake District attractions - Haweswater, High Street Roman Road, the Eden Valley, Shap Abbey, Rheged Discovery Centre and National Mountain Exhibition, as well as the less-visited Howgill Fells.
The Wainwright Coast to Coast walk passes directly past the Lodge. We are an excellent base for the night!
Also for walkers, the Westmoreland Way, the Cumbria Way and the Lakeland Round pass within a few hundred metres of us.
We offer a range of activities from our Lodge. We provide maps and details for walkers (and even a guide if you want it), mountain bikes for hire (with a special rate for residents), and an orienteering course outside our back door. We also can arrange kayaking, climbing and wilderness camping and bush craft skills courses if you want.
Shap village has 3 good pubs, all of which provide evening meals.
Nearby too, is the historic Shap Abbey, built in 1199, and open to visitors. Another option for a quiet day in the Rheged Discovery Centre with excellent shopping, an IMax cinema and the National Mountain Exhibition. It is the leading tourist attraction in Cumbria.
New Ing itself is a former coaching inn and was built in 1708. It was for many years also a working farm. It makes an excellent base for the central Lake District and the northern and western fells - as well as the less-visited Howgill Fells.
