Derbyshire contains a remarkable mix of pastoral and industrial scenery and the two counties share with Yorkshire and Cheshire the impressive Peak District. Kinder Scout, an exposed peat plateau, is the highest point of Derbyshire’s Peak District, at the starting point of the Pennine Way National Trail, and gives glorious views across the county.
The Peak District National Park, designated in 1951 and situated in central England, was Britain's first National Park, covering an area of approximately 1438 square km/555 square miles. The Peak District contains high rocky crags, gentle rolling hills and pretty valleys, it has long been a favorite getaway destination for people from the industrial towns surrounding the area, seeking good fresh air, an adventure, or a quiet refreshing day out.
