extremely friendly staff nothing a problem. I had limited time available and all my requests were accommodated. I was impressed with the follow up calls when I was out of town even in the desert!! A great place to stay.

The staff @ Meramees make up for the lack of cleanliness and atmosphere @ this hostel - all the staff were incredibly helpful and extremely friendly. For this reason alone we returned for a 2nd stay @ Meramees during our extended time in Cairo.
Shared bathrooms were not always clean (one of the 2 WCs on the 6th floor was blocked and remained so for the duration of our 1st stay). Toilet paper was rarely provided.
We had also stayed @ other hostels in Cairo with a higher level of cleanliness but very sterile and business-like (ie: money orientated) whereas Meramees staff were interested in knowing your name etc. An nice change in Cairo. Also, never hassled in regards to tours etc. Free coffee and tea was also a bonus.

Great location in downtown for eating and near transport to pyramids and other sites. Very clean rooms and facilities. Use of kitchen and free tea and coffee, as well as bread, jam and cheese for breakfast. But best of all, all of the staff here are great, extremely helpful and friendly, they make you feel like you have a home in Cairo.

The taxi driver who picked us up from the hotel and works with the hostel took on an amazing tour for just 160 Egyotian pounds, took us to Saqqura, Dahshur, Giza, lunch and visits to bazars and schools. Really worth the money. His name is Sallam, ask for him.

We liked the faded charm of the place especially the archaic lift. We were pleased that they came to the airport to get us.

Mohammed and Amr were excellent... very helpful. There was no partying that I saw, but I did not seek it. Great place for single female travelers. If you arrive really early in the morning try to force yourself to read the hostel sign in its entirety... it's on the fifth floor and knowing that when you walk into the building saves a lot of time on confusion.
