Liked: It's seems like it's the best floor of all floors of the house. So don't be worried by goinig up to the 5th floor by lift because all others floors are in a bad situation, but Meramees is very nice

Disliked: it can be difficult the find the hostel even when your in the right street. it's a high building and you should look up for an sign "meramees" otherwise you may don't find the place...

Liked: Awesome location and close to all amenities. The staff at Meramees were great and extremely helpful. A great thanks to Mostafa, OSA, Shereef, Ahmed and Hishaam Costa.

Disliked: The Lift needs to be looked at, quite hazardous.

Liked: Great location, and good room for the price. Staff are friendly and can organise a cheap car to the pyramids. Computers cost LE 5 to use for an hour though.

Liked: Meramees was a great place to stay. We stayed two nights and they were perfectly willing to book affordable travel options to Giza, Luxor and anywhere else we wanted to go. Never felt like we were being hustled. We utilized a trip to Giza and our driver spoke very good English, giving us details we would not have received otherwise, and he was cheap! Very enjoyable stay.

Liked: The place is a bit hard to find as signage is pretty minimal and its in a bit off a dodgy building but you are in cairo. The staff were nice and helpful and the rooms were basic but clean and toilets ok and clean as well. Is very close to the Egyptian Museum but we found the street pretty dodgy and the mosque next door does make bit difficult to sleep in the morning.It was fine for budget accomadation.

Liked: The location is great. Walk to the museum, cairo tower, nile river, and more. Nice mix of modern shops and authentic tea houses as well as street markets all in the area. There is an excellent store for buying food as well as other necessities just a few steps down the block. The staff was always a pleasure to talk to and helpful if you need it. Plenty of tours available right there, and they can set you up with a driver any time of the day to anywhere you want to go. Breakfast is simple, but effective and there are cooking facilities available. I've stayed in hostels in over 10 countries, and this one is second best, behind posada los mopaches in Tulum Mexico.

Liked: They do not have a bag room and refused to let me leave it anywhere in the hostel. Therefore, if you have a bus in the evening, you have no choice but to lug your luggage with you all day.

Liked: The staff were so lovely! There one particular guy who was really helpful, we got hustled at one point and he did try to negotiate with the tour people who (Ahem, don't go with Abydos Tours and don't speak to strangers in the street who say they can do you deals, no matter how nice they seem!) eventually, although we didn't get our money back, settled for giving us free entry to places on our tour. Which would not have happened at all without him. Plus they give you maps and are ready to offer help whenever you need it. Also, it's a great place to meet people if you hang out in the breakfast/living room area.

Liked: My room smelled like fermenting fruit, but that is the only complaint. this is not the hostel for parties, but Cairo is not a party town. It was a good place for some casual conversations, and was in general a very enjoyable place to stay. If returning to Cairo, I would probably stay at the Meramees again.
