Liked: Extremely clean and very kind & helpful staff. The 4 bedroom ensuite was a great deal. We agree that this is one of the BEST hostels that we have stayed at. very close to downtown cairo, 5 min walk to egyptian museum. Note: The map in Lonely Planet is incorrect, close but not correct. You can call them for directions, it is right next to mitsubishi or El rawas car dealership.

Liked: Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They were very eager to help and solve any issue that came up during our staying there. Their transportation service was accurate and at a fair price. Also they are very eager to provide advice and valuable information.

Disliked: The building it is located in is very old and dirty but the staff tries to keep the hostel clean.

Liked: Very practical for a family of 6 because we took the 6-bed dorm! Close to downtown, close to the Egyptian museum! The hostel is surprisingly very clean despite the not so clean building, It's located on the 7th floor of the building, so not that easy to find. Staff friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Sharing a bathroom is not always easy but we came just after the events of January 2011 so we were almost alone!

Liked: This is an oustanding hostel, especially for the cost. You are right next to Tahrir Square in the heart of downtown and can get to anywhere in Cairo from bus depot or never ending line of taxis. The hostel in managed by a great group of Egyptians. They were all friendly, helpful, and fun to chat with. The hostel is not very big, so it has a nice charm to it as some hostels feel like you are bunking up in a mental institution. I really enjoyed talking with Haidy who works the front desk. This is a very trustworthy place as I found out upon checking out when I had left my passport and money under my bed. A cleaning lady turned it in and I was relieved of what would have been a true dilemma. I would recommend it to anyone

Disliked: The only thing I would mention is that if you are use to walking up many flights of stairs, this may not be the place for you. The elevator was not in service when I stayed.

Liked: Awesome accommodations! Friendly staff, air conditioned private rooms, complimentary breakfast every morning, clean bathrooms, and we seriously paid next to nothing. The hostel is located on the 10th floor of a high rise building and the common room has a huge window that looks out over the city it was amazing. Located in a really neat part of the city, if you walk around near the building you get a real cool look at the local people and businesses. There is also television and a computer to use. Completely satisfied with my stay at Wake Up Cairo!

Disliked: Difficult to find, no real signs to tell you where this place is and none of the locals could tell us. The high rise building that Wake Up Cairo is located in is in pretty rough shape, elevators are pretty scary (aka missing buttons, wires and stuff hanging out) but I would rather take the elevator than walk the stairwell (also in very bad shape). Once you get to the hostel its a completely different story, inside is clean, modern, and very enjoyable. Also we had a difficult time finding any nightlife in Cairo, however its a huge city we may have been looking in the wrong place haha

Liked: Good location and good views! Very helpful and friendly staff, rooms are very clean and shared toilets are also very nice and clean.

Disliked: Rooms on 7th or 10th floor, a lot of stairs if the elevator breaks down as it had done when we where there. There is an alternative elevator but it forces you to go up to top of building and walk across roof full och satellite dishes and debris and then down on the other side where the hostel is located. Thats 14 floor up. Stairs are dark and a bit dirty but walkable.

Liked: Lonely Planet guide books are available from hostel staff. Location is excellent.

Disliked: The tour to Giza pyramid only includes a driver who cannot give you much information to the sites or bring you around, so technically it is not a tour. The driver also attempted to scam us into joining 35 times more expensive tour by a local agent prior to entering the pyramids area. After we refused, he did not have a great attitude for the rest of the day and tried to skip one of the sites which we paid for. The lift to the hostel broke down on the day we checked out. The hostel staff did not help us carry our luggage down seven stories. The private bathroom stinks. The public bathroom did not have cold water. The white desert tour included pick up but not drop off. We were dropped off at a bus station far from the hostel and had to make our own way through the metro.

Liked: The staff were very friendly and helpfull with info and directions to anything. It was very clean and safe since it was in the 7th floor and 10th floor of a building rooms only acessable past the reception area which is always staffed. Great tour facilitations.

Disliked: On some tours you may get a none-english speaking driver to tour sites which makes it a litle tought. In those cases you may want to bring a dictionary.

Liked: Good location, close to Egyptian Museum, train station, bus terminals, good-sized rooms, 24hrs reception, very helpful staff, breakfast included. Airport pick-up available, which is a great help. Staff can help with organizing your tours and will help you with all kinds of information you need. Building is next to a mosque, so you get the muezzin singing 5 times a day.

Disliked: A bit of maneuvering required when having a shower but they are hot and powerful and that's the main thing. Smoking is ubiquitous so for a non smoker, the communal area might be uncomfortable at times.

Liked: It was clean, bathroom really clean, dished they gave you food on were clean. Cool little lounge place. Two solid computers and wifi (you have to pay). The building doesn't look like much outside, the elevator is dodgy and the stairs more so but trust me, when you get inside, it is a different world. Decent little views too. Staff was nice. As far as the tours and stuff, they probably just charge the going rate. I would only use them if you don't care or don't have the time. You aren't going to save too much money doing package stuff through someone else, but if you go and organize it all yourself, you can save money then.My airplane was delayed 14 hours and I had no way to contact them, they came to the airport three times to get me, the last one being at 4 a.m. I really did not expect them to be there. That alone won me over. Guys even took me out to smoke sheesha (huka) the first night and have some tea and they payed. Super cool showers. You'll see.Free maps, nothing special but can be useful.

Disliked: In this area of town, there some places closer to the subway/sights but still, it is by no means OUT of the way, just not as close at others. They do charge for laundry and internet, it seemed a bit steep but I don't know because I haven't been anywhere else in Egypt yet.
