Liked: Stayed here over Christmas and turned out to be a fortunate choice. The house is a little run down, but has three floors with nooks and balconies, a reasonably stocked kitchen, and full living room with your choice of DVDs (although the sound was a little off from the player's speakers). Close to bus lines, easy walk to Gringolandia and supermarkets. It runs a school, so they were booked when we tried to stay there again after the Galapagos. We stayed at Hostel Familiar a few blocks away -- don't ever go there!!

Disliked: An older place, but a good choice.

Liked: The hostal was very near to the Centro Historico of Quito, it took only half-an-hour to walk there from Tutamanda. The staff of the hostal is great, they took care of anything I asked. I left my backpack and my valuables to Tutamanda when I travelled to Amazonia, Cotopaxi, Mindo and Baños for a few days. Every time they found a free room for me when I came back so that I didn't have to find myself another accomodation. Thank you Susana, Jose, Carlos and everybody in Tutamanda! It was a great pleasure to live in your hostal! See you sometimes! Juha

Liked: Lots of people stay in the hostel for long periods while studying spanish at the school so it has a nice homely feel and the kitchen is really well equipped. The staff were lovely and helpful, free internet when it was working, room was big and clean and made up each day. The common areas (kitchen, dining room, lounge room) were good for meeting other guests but its not a party place so you can get a good sleep. You can walk to La Mariscal in 15 minutes and its close to a trollybus to get into the old centre so the location is pretty good, except that the main road it is on is a health hazard - the pollution, especially from the buses, is disgusting.

Liked: Very secure place for me as I was getting rooms with four beds to myself (paying for a single room). This was great since Quito is VERY dangerous in any area. Jose and (son) Junior are very friendly and helpful too and can book tours - can recommend Cotopaxi - it's hard work but not impossibly so if you get good weather. There is a kitchen with microwave/fridge/freezer and the usual stuff. A small spanish school is attached $6 gets you 1-2-1 for an hour. I did a couple of hours only as after being robbed in gringoland I wanted to get out of town, so cannot judge the quality of lessons well. It seems everyone gets robbed in Quito if you stay more than a couple of days, so take only the bare minimum out with you. This is not a party hostel but there is a big lounge area to meet people and Junior seems to clean everywhere, everyday. The showers were fantastic.....like being jetwashed.

Liked: The staff were very friendly and helpful, even offering to accompany me to the nearest supermarket and shops if necessary. The place is very close to the tourist area (La Mariscal), 10min walking, and at night there are no noises so it's perfect for having a good rest. There is available tv with dvd's, books, a very nice kitchen and my room and private bathroom were extremely clean, being cleaned everyday.

Liked: Stayed a couple of nights and will soon stay 2 more. Great staff, location is good - a few blocks from the trollé and L3 (Av Amrericas) bus lines. Easy 10-15 minute walk to northern end of Av Amazonas. Very quiet, clean, and secure. Not a party place which I wanted. No smoking indoors. Nice chill out area with DirecTV.

Liked: This place for us was great, it's very close to the metrobus and the Trolle bus for getting around, the rooms were very clean and the staff were very helpful. The wifi internet is ok for web browsing just but for anything else is far too slow. This is primarily a spanish school and the atmosphere was ust very calm and peaceful. This is not a party place at all, but for us was great, as we just wanted a clean quiet place to sleep and rest. We stayed at the El Centro del Mundo Hostel previous to here and it was awful, we'd paid for 2 nights, but left after 1, it was filthy. We then arrived here and it was such a pleasure.

Liked: The hostel has a Spanish school in it and the school was excellent. My desk was only 10m from my room! The school was very reasonably priced - USD5 per hour for one to one teaching. The hostel was extremely clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff and could organise good trips. I was highly recommend this hostel.
