Liked: Truly a diamond. In all my years of travel I have NEVER met a family so hospitable, kind, and helpful. The breakfast is better than that even the most expensive hotels, the beds very comfy, free wireless, bathrooms very clean... what more could you ask for? This really was the most wonderful place I have ever stayed. I will be back!

Disliked: NOTHING.

Liked: The owners picked me up at the airport, gave me tea and made me feel right at home. The property is beautiful, and they work very hard at making you feel welcome, safe, and make your visit so much easier. Luis spent untill the late evening going over all the places I can visit, how to catch the bus, what to say in spanish, and showing with maps and pictures on google earth step by step for my visit to the middle of the earth, Mindo, Octavalo, the crater lakes, volcanos, and into the Amazon in Puyo. Breakfast was so amazing with Real coffee, fresh fruits and blended juices, eggs, ceral, toast... etc The rooms are cozy, great beds, with warm blankets!! In 4 months of traveling I finally felt like I was home, it was very comforting and much needed before i set out into my journeys again.

Liked: The owner, Luis, is incredibly friendly and willing to help with anything. We were offered a cup of tea when we arrived, then Luis took time to show us some maps and explain some of the highlights of the city. We took a tour with Luis to the Mitad del Mundo one day and he was a great guide as well. The Jumbo breakfast was awesome (cereal, eggs, juice/milkshake, tea, toast). The bed was really comfortable - a little bit of noise from the road, but nothing that stopped us sleeping. Good wifi too.

Disliked: James left no negative feedback.

Liked: Luis, Maria and their daughters were excellent hosts and they worked really hard to make us feel at home. Luis had a lot of local knowledge and was always ready to help with anything we wanted. The rooms were clean and pretty and the beds were nice and comfy with 2 pillows each, which we found a rarity in many other lodgings. A lovely place to stay.

Liked: There is nothing not to love about this place. The rooms are very big and comfortable, it has tons of character (the home is over 150 years old), it's in a great location, and the breakfast is delicious. Luis and his family own the place and live onsite, always ready to provide helpful advice or cater to any need that you may have. They are kind beyond words. It's really more of a B&B than a hostel, with 4 private rooms and 2 more on the way. We'll come back here any time we're in Quito.

Disliked: The wifi doesn't reach inside the rooms due to the 80cm thick 150+ year old walls, but this is a minor quibble. There was a comfy sofa right outside the room where I sat to get online.

Liked: If the price of this place initially puts you off, don´t let it if you can afford it. It´s a lovely place and the owner, Louis, can not do enough for you. He will help you with absolutely anything, and also offers day trips cheaper than the agencies (and you go as a small private group with the benefits than come with that!). He is a wealth of information about the city and makes you feel like you are in your own home. The breakfast is simply superb, the rooms very (very!) big and beds comfortable. As I said, if you can afford it I thoroughly recommend staying here. The way we were looked after made our stay in Quito so much more enjoyable.

Disliked: Bathroom slightly on the small side. But it was clean and the shower was hot, so that is all that matters really.

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay at this hostel. The rooms are nice and big and the location is good for seeing the sights of the Old Town. Other posts have complained about the noise from the street but we did not find this a problem. They provide earplugs if you need them though. It was also nice to have a hot shower and to be able to flush toilet paper down the toilet! The breakfast is probably the best that we have had since arriving in South America. We had fruit, cereal and yogurt, eggs, rolls, coffee, juice and milkshakes. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. They gave us advise on what to see in the city as well as helped us figure out how to catch a bus to Colombia. The owner also drove us to the bus station (an 1hr drive in bad traffic for which he only charged us $5) and found the correct bus to take us to the boarder.

Disliked: We found the hostel hard to find, although the property is numbered there is no signage to identify the hostel. Our only other minor complaint would be that our room was not cleaned during our 2 day stay. Although we have found this to be the norm in many places in South America. I am sure that if we had asked they would have cleaned it. Just to note it is a rather quiet hostel, so if you are looking for a party atmosphere this is not the place to go.

Liked: Great location nearby the historic part of town. The accomodation itself is extremely clean and spacious and the owners of the lodging are very helpful with suggestions of what to see. The breakfast is also amazing. All in all I would say it felt very homely- less like staying in a hostel and more like staying in someone's home.

Disliked: We didn't have hot water for our showers. Also, because the lodging is more of a quiet style accomodation, those travelling alone looking to meet people might be better off at one of the more 'party' hostels.

Liked: It's a large, rambling colonial mansion and the rooms are huge. The owner and his family make you extremely welcome. The breakfasts are magnificent. Fresh fruit juice, homemade cerials with milk or yoghart, variety of fresh breads with cheese or jams plus a bowl of fresh fruit.

Disliked: Only niggles, wifi doesn't work in the bedrooms "walls are too thick" and the showers are tepid at best.

Liked: The friendliness of the people working in this place can only descriped by own word: Outstanding.Luis and his daughter did go out of the way to help us with our bookings and the daytrips we did from there. Furthermore I never had a breakfast this good. Fresh Smoothie, tea, eggs, cereals, yogurt, rolls, jam... as much as you want. A 5 Star Hotel could not have offered a better breakfast.Location is a little out of the main district in the old town and the hotel is located close to a little noisy road. Besides of this point this was a place as perfect as you can wish for

Liked: Everything! Luis, the owner, is a very friendly and patient hostal owner in the beautiful city of Quito. This historic Colonial building is the perfect setting for your stay with large ceilings and authentic old wood floors. The 'Jumbo Breakfast' is indeed Jumbo and a fantastic way to start your day. No typical toast and coffee are your only offerings with this meal! We had many questions for Luis and he was able to provide us an answer or recommendation for everything. He works with his family here and it really adds to the positive atmosphere during your stay.

Disliked: There are some dogs that bark across the street, but if you use the earplugs that are waiting for you in your room, you will sleep like a baby!

Liked: The hostel stay was very nice as the family running the place were wonderful. The location is great and only a few minutes away from the main sights. The only two suggestions would be 1) ask about the hot water if you can't get it to go - I took cold showers there but realized when I got to Guatemala that some of these showers will only get hot if you turn the nozzle slightly from the start otherwise the water flows to quickly through the system to get heated... 2) bring earplugs as there were two really annoying dogs that barked most of the night - I have a feeling that this is a problem in most of Quito though.

Disliked: Daniel left no negative feedback.
