Disliked: Was a bit cold in our room (but they give lots of blankets and pillows). Neighborhood was a little sketchy at night

Liked: I had a great time staying at Colonial House. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, the accommodations were really nice and comfortable, and the location was perfect. In addition, they have people who can sit down and help you arrange tours for later in your trip. They were really helpful in booking trips to the Galapagos that were much more reasonably priced than anything I found back home. They also had laundry service - cheap, quick, and they even folded all my clothes for me! I also would recommend staying in the old city in Quito instead of gringolandia - much more culturally stimulating and there is lots to see during the day.

Disliked: I had a great time here, my only complaint was the cold weather!!

Liked: Very freindly and helpfull staff. Fre internet, coffee and tea. Two kitchens for guests. Lots of hanging out areas. Good looking indoors.

Disliked: Price doesn¨t include tax. There are cheaper options- a bit less rewarding, but with more backpackers atmosphere on the other hand- good for quiet people.

Liked: The owner Ornelia is like a den mother to all of her guests. She is full of great information and is always looking out for our safety. Location is great - in San Blas, 7 minutes walk to Old Town. Quiet location. Comfy beds. Great facilities, all services available - breakfast, laundry, taxi, tours, etc.

Disliked: Leaving.

Liked: The lady who runs this hostel is wonderful! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was fantastic ... we had a party to say farewell to one of the volunteers when we were there which was lots of fun. It's a beautiful, cosy, warm, friendly and fun hostel. The breakfast was also amazing and well worth the extra 3.50. I would definitely recommend it.

Liked: Absolute bargain! Extremely homely hostel with excellent rooms and common areas. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Great location within a few minutes walk of the historic centre.

Liked: The hostel is a 5 minute walk from the Centro Historico. Despite the cautious warnings of other travellers regarding Quito, I found the city and the hostel safe and secure. The city during the day is filled with police officers - therefy deterring any untoward incidents to tourists. Like any city , one has to get advice from the locals to avoid any untoward incident. The owner of the hostel and her team are extremely helpful. They have provided advice on how to maximise my stay in Quito and arranged any trips that I had intended to do. The room is decorated in a typical Andian way - making me feel that I am actually lodging in a proper Ecuadorian home. While I could not get any internet signal in my room (due to the thick and 100+ year old walls), there is plenty of common areas where I could access the hostel wifi whilst chatting to other travellers. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Colonial House and am looking forward to going back there again.

Disliked: None at all.

Liked: Great hostel, very friendly and helpful owner. Good price and location is pretty central near the old town and market. Excellent internet.

Disliked: Shower could be a bit warmer/better pressure but otherwise everything was good.

Liked: There was a vase of fresh flowers in the room when we arrive. The hostel is family run and they are all very friendly and helpful. The house is also charmly eccentric with crooked rooms, corridors, kitchens, lounges and even a big garden.

Disliked: Only that that the location - up the end of a very quiet street near the market - felt a little dodgy, but then again you can say that for all of Quito. It is not a safe city.

Liked: Really helpful staff, Ornelia is very friendly and welcoming, Kathy is great, especially if you don't speak much Spanish, if you want to organise a jungle or Galapagos trip, Dante will get you a good deal, as well as helping with transport and transfers. He even lent me money when the ATM restriction prevented me from taking out enough! The beds are very comfortable, the showers aren't fantastic, but they're fine. Good internet facilities, Spanish lessons available (good teacher as well). Very close to the old town to go exploring in the day, at night is a short taxi ride from the Mariscal. Area felt safe.

Disliked: The barking dog across the road, and the truck that passes, constantly beeping its horn.

Liked: Gem of a hostel which being new hasn't been spoiled by being praised to the skies in guidebooks - yet. Owner is lovely and nothing is too much trouble for her.

Liked: This hostel has the friendliest atmosphere of any hostel I've ever been to. The owner is the sweetest lady and will take care of anything you might need. I felt so comfortable here, like it was my own home. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to Quito!

Disliked: Nothing. Everything was awesome.

Liked: Catherine ant Ornelia were two of the best hosts of any hostel I've stayed at, very accomodating. The breakfast was terrific, and laundry service was a great deal.

Disliked: Internet was not always reliable, and it didn't reach the third floor where I was located.

Liked: I have been travelling for over 3 months and would say that this is the best hostel I have stayed at. The hostel is very clean and organized and caters to all types of travellers. The lady that owns and runs the hostel is very giving and kind, always serving coffee or tea to guests. There are hot showers all the time, 2 very nice kitchens which actually have functioning supplies, a nice book exchange, information on tours, and currently a very helpful volunteer who speaks English. Additionally, it is located close to Plaza Grande in the Old City ... it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to walk there. The laid back and chill atmosphere of the hostel combined with the low cost and lovely staff make this place a must!

Disliked: I enjoyed everything!
