Liked: I arrived late from the airport and I it was the perfect place to spend the night. The room was really nice and the staff very helpful.

Liked: The staff were very freindly and ost helpfull, it does help to know a bit of spanish, but there is a american women working here so not essential. The rooms were great, the best bed ive stayed in on all my travels. Overall great hostel.

Disliked: Its not in the best location, its only 10 mins from the center but you have to walk past a not so nice area to get there. At night i would take taxi. Besides from that nothing.

Liked: Fantastic staff, great breakfast and relaxed and tranquil. A REAL hostel and not one of these big party chains. Free internet too and comfy beds. Owner very friendly and the US ladies working there were very helpful.

Disliked: the price doesnt include breakfast

Liked: Colonial House is the only place I stay when in Quito. Ornelia, the owner, is so sweet and helpful, the hostel is big, clean & comfortable and there are always interesting & friendly people staying there. They just installed a super cool fire place on the back patio where people can hang out. Also, there is an English-speaking volunteer from the states working there, if your Spanish isn't that great.

Disliked: A lot of people complain that there isn't any hot water in the showers, but there is.. you just have to know how to use them right-- most showers in Ecuador only get hot if you turn them on lightly and let them heat up for about 3 minutes. If you turn the water on full blast it will be cold the whole time!

Liked: The Owner and Staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a nice common room, and free internet. The Bus Station is 5 minutes away to walk.

Disliked: Its not lokated in the center of the Newtown.

Liked: EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT OR NEED IN A HOSTEL PLUS MUCH MUCH MORE. THE STAFF WILL WARM YOUR HEART AND PROVIDE ANYTHING YOU NEED. SO IMPRESSED THAT I AM RETURNING AFTER MY GALAPAGOS ISLANDS TRIP

Liked: A perfect chill-out hostel, definitely not a party hostel. Lots of ppl appeared to be doing language courses. Ornellia the manager is super sweet and helpful, she makes great breakfasts (which you pay $3 for) and will give you free yummy coffee and cookies all day. There is a great selection of dvds, good kitchen.

Disliked: We never got hot water, though others did. Unfortunately the worst thing about this hostel is its location....not near any amenities and didn`t feel that safe. If you could move this hostel it would be brilliant!

Liked: The owners are very friendly people. They serve a great breakfast with fruitsalad, muesli, coffe and more. I had a great time staying there!

Liked: Ornelia and Dante were very helpful with information. Ornelia is a great hostess and we are staying there again when we return to Quito as it felt like home.

Disliked: Had cold showers at times and rooms were cold. Still not a drawback.

Liked: First point of contact, Ornelia the owner...so warm and friendly on arrival, giving me some bread as I was starving after my journey and a fresh juice. She is clearly passionate about ensuring that her guests have the best possible experience in Quito and in her hostel and her wamrth and personal attention really made a difference to my stay there.The building itself has been decorated lovingly by Ornelia herself and the personal touches and quirks in the paint work and ornaments really go a long way towards achieving the homely feel Ornelia feels so strongly about. The building, old but clean and renovated has the feel of a dorm house but in the best way... lots of common areas to mete other travellers and private nooks and crannies where you can hang out alone and read or surf online with wifi. Her breakfasts are spectacular for $3....a bowl heaped with fresh fruit, yogurt and crunchy granola, assorted bread with choclate spread or cream cheese, scrambled eggs, freshly made juice with homemade soy milk and tea or coffee. I had booked a 4 bed dorm and ended up sleeping in a comfy double bed with the other three beds in an annex off my sleeping area.Really great hostel...no complaints!

Liked: Ornelia (the owner) was really helpful from the early check in we had, to giving us free juice every morning even though we didnt pay for the breakfast.

Disliked: the showers were a rarely warm, let alone hot

Liked: excellent hotel with some of the most friendly and helpful staff i have ever encounted. On arrival i was given a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and told that while my stay i should treat the hostel like my home. Best thing about the hostel though is the ,ast minute extra trips the hostel can arrange for you, including the jungle and galapagos, which are value for money. I, myself, took 1-1 spanish lessons during my stay which were excellent for only $8 a hour.

Liked: A lovely place to stay with very friendly service. My girlfriend was sick and the owners were really helpful and understanding. Definately a good place to stay. Facilities to cook and watch tv were excellent.

Disliked: neighbourhood is not so good, but if you go by day all be fine and in t he evening just take a taxi

Liked: Pros - - The owner, Ornelia is amazing! Love her! She is so nice. She knows some english (but it would be good to know some spanish too) and will do anything to make sure her guests are happy.- Breakfast is one of the best I've had in South America. Big bowl of fruit with yogurt and granola, bread with various jams, butters etc.. and scrambled egg. Coffee, juice and tea as well. It was really good and so much food. I would stay here just for the breakfasts.- Atmosphere is really nice. Nice clean bright rooms with lots of color. There is a kitchen for everyones use thats always clean and a TV lounge and dining area thats great. Free coffee,tea,hot cocoa all day. I was in the single ensuite and I even had fresh flowers in my room. Along with a balcony with great views and a closet. Great price too!- Location is close to all the old town sights. I didn't really like the immediate area surrounding the hostel but i'm a solo female traveler so anyone in a group would be fine just keep a careful eye out and don't walk around the area after dark (take a taxi)- Hot showers. The room I was in had an electric shower which guaranteed hot showers. Though it was a bit weird and kind of spat the water out. Still did the trick though.Gracias Ornelia!

Disliked: Cons - They have wifi but it didn't work for me in my room. Maybe I was too far from the router. They do have a computer in the reception area that anyone can use.

Liked: Great environment and immaculately clean. The owners and family treat you like honored guest and give great tips, advice, etc. Trips arranged through the hostel are of a good price with trust-worthy guides. Brilliant people and a great experience.
