Liked: Everything! The hostel is set amoungst some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever come across, the views over the mountains and the town below are just spectacular. The hostel itself is a little arrangment of cottages which is both charming and very individual. The room was comfortable, clean and warm. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful- willing to cater to my every need, and provided excellent food. The hostel is perfectly located to access Otavalo to visit the world famous market which really is a must, but also fanastic for hikers to enjoy the local waterfall, lakes and volcanoes. Everything about this hostel was just perfect and I would recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation with a twist! Thank you, Rose Cottage, for making my time in Otavalo everything I wanted it to be and more.

Liked: Location: is a bit far from town center but if you go to otavalo you don't have to stay on town center. location is perfect! beautiful place Very nice people!

Liked: Great hostel staff were very helpful the food was fantastic also.

Disliked: Staff not around we could not get any help all day until around 7 at night. Was told we would get a free ride into bus station but ended up having to taxi!

Liked: Lovely scenic location. Nice restaurant meals if you pre order.

Disliked: Overpriced. Sales tax is added on to the quoted rates. No internet. No place to buy basic supplies in the area. No self service kitchen.

Liked: A wonderful place, very recommendable! In five months of travelling here in S.A. Rose Cottage is definately in the top 3. It's got everything that counts - perfect staff, clean, tidy, with all the facilities you'll ever need. It is a little bit out of town, but you won't get views or a backyard like this in the city, and the owner will happily give you a lift down to the market every morning, free of charge. Absolutely worth it!

Liked: The staff was incredibly helpful, the hostel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location couldn't be any more beautiful! So tranquil, safe and really just gorgeous views of the Ecuadorean countryside. Was a little out of town ($3 taxi ride), but worth it in my opinion. Staff was more than willing to call a taxi, and they were easy to get in town. Wonderfully relaxing with lovely decorations and lots of little extras (like free breakfast and linens).

Disliked: As I said it wasn't walkable to town, but in some ways that made it safer and a nice refuge from the city (we traveled from Quito). If being able to walk everywhere is important to you, this isn't your place, but honestly the taxis are cheap and convenient, and I still felt we saved money by staying a little further away and calling a cab.

Disliked: suprising how far out of town, not all taxi drivers reasonable but not this property's fault---ran into this in Quito also

Liked: Got moved to bigger cottage which had 3/4 bedrooms. Lounge on first floor with lovely views from balcony.

Disliked: Rain came through walls and ceiling during a rainstorm into lounge. Seating was a bedsette with cusions. No back rest. Other seating was poufs.

Liked: Very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. The food was well portioned and lovely and was a great way to meet other travelers. Beautiful location and with a home like atmostphere. A nice place to relax Muy Tranquilo!!!

Liked: Its in a great location just out of town, a 40 min walk down hill or a short cab ride. The town itself is nice but waking up on top of a hill with a nice view is just amazing. Dinner is optional every night and a great way to meet other travellers.

Liked: Beautiful Views, Note; do not count on the hostel to drive you back and forth as the say, they only take you to the market, other than that its a 3.00 cab ride each way or a 35 min walk to down to Otavalo or Up to the hostel.

Liked: Rose Cottage is an extremely relaxing and attractive place to stay. The views are stunning, the rooms are very comfortable, the food is fantastic and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We ended up staying for much longer than we expected to!

Liked: Fabulous hostel in a great location. Its a little far away from Otavalo town but its totally worth it. Richard and Sophie are excellent hosts (and cooks!) and make you really feel at home and part of the family. We were so sad we only had one night there. I can not recommend this hostel enough!

Liked: Great place to stay!! Note that it is quite a distance out of central town, but this was exactly what we were looking after Quito. Richard and Soph were super helpful and they cooked dinners for very reasonable rates. Very clean and safe stay. Highly recommended!!

Liked: The description for Cabanas Rose Cottage was right to the point. The view from anywhere in the property was gorgeous. Richard, our host, was expecting our late arrival, as have been noted in our email to him. The service was prompt and great. Even the 2 dogs are friendly and playful.There is a tennis court and ping-pong table (they provide rackets and balls). They also offer meals on-site if you are interested. We joined them for a chile con carne dinner 1 night and the food was great too.This place is a good alternative from staying in the Otavalo city center. It is by the mountain and takes about 30 minutes walking downhill to Otavalo city center but it is a good, safe, scenic walk. Cabanas Rose Cottage is for everyone - backpackers, romantics, family - for any travel reason - relaxation, base for other trips, etc. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Otavalo.
