Liked: nothing really.

Disliked: we booked via hostelbookers a double room, but the staff isnt't able to check there mails regularly so they didn't read the booking mail and when we arrived there were no free double rooms and we ended up in a singel room, very tiny, very noisy and far too small for two people with a bed that was the worst we had in south america travelling since three weeks. Unfortuntaley the staff wasn't able do give us a respectable discount :-(( on what we got.

Liked: the rooms are massive the staff are friendly and the breakfast is great. the place is well worth the money even if your on a budget!!

Liked: Spacious bedroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Friendly travelers. Nice group of travelers. Walk to Plaza Major and river and shops. Beautiful garden. Delicious breakfast with additional options at nominal cost.

Liked: It's actually pretty good, but prices are pretty high as well. Price/quality balance is better in other places.

Liked: It´s quite clean, however the interior noises are terrible. You can hear every neighbor. I would not go back. You can get better value elsewhere.

Liked: The Hostal Macondo is well location in the center of old Cuenca, within easy walking distance of all the museums. Internet available at no cost for 30 minutes a day; better yet, wifi in some rooms and in the lobby near reception. The staff is very friendly; almost everyone is bilingual English Spanish. continental breakfast included is quite adequate and guests can order additional breakfast items at very reasonable cost. I highly recommend the muesli, which is a bowl of muesli at the bottom topped with a generous variety of fruits in season (pineapple, papaya, watermelon, bananas..) in turn topped by plain yogurt. Filling and healthy. I saw no bunk beds. the shared rooms are enormous, with doubles and twins in them. We had a double ensuite, so the room was not large but certainly adequate. Despite being in the city center, Macondo is very quiet at night--a blessing.Guests were all ages, from the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, the US, Australia. Some based here for Spanish classes, anthropological research or trekking nearby. Food, shopping, bank machines, internet cafes, etc all within easy reach by foot. I would definitely stay here again.My average rating on value for money is simply due to the contrast of what we paid in Quito versus what we paid here. I imagine for an individual traveler with shared bathroom it would be good value for money.

Liked: Best breakfast ever from a Hostel. For like $2 you get unlimited juice, coffee, hot chocholate, and a specialty item, like omolette, pancake, or fruit yogurt cereal. There are 2 courtyards with hammacks and grass, more like a $80 a night hotel then a $20 a night hostel

Liked: This hostel is really great, they give you a lot of information about the place, they are exremely helpfull and kind, it is located near everything and they offer tour guides to nearby towns and ruins at a low price.
