Liked: very laid back and has its own kitchen and seating areas so you can socialise and cater for yourself at the same time

Liked: At first I was concerned about its distance from the city center and the somewhat length walk necessary to reach the tourist mainstays in Prague but came to enjoy living in the Zizkov where actual Czechs live. The bar crawl to a number of local bars had an authentic feel as they were almost all devoid of tourists (outside of us). The atmosphere at the Hostel Elf could not be better and is supported through its many couches and a very friendly and convenient outdoor terrace. The usual hostel amenities (free internet, a communal kitchen, cheap beer) was also a serious plus.

Disliked: Like I mentioned above it is a little bit of a hike into the city but really not more than 15 minutes to Old Town Square.

Liked: I loved the feel of it - it really welcomes you; the orange colour scheme fits in very well and i loved the idea of having all those different countries written around the place.And the general athmosphere was just awesome :) Oh, and the coffee's great! :)

Disliked: The women's downstairs shower is all screwy and a bit claustrophobic and one of the outer windows in our room was missing, although that was not really a problem.

Liked: The staff at this hostel were friendly and helpful. This hostel is very sociable and is well suited to those who like to party. However, if you do not like to wake up to find naked strangers in your room or people passed out in the hallway, then this is not really the place for you. The staff knowingly assign more people to a room than there are beds in that room, so rooms are overcrowded. Our room also had a locker shortage, with 9 lockers for 13 people (in an 11 person dorm), so expect to have your stuff out in the open. The breakfast is minimalistic (toast, jam, cheese, salami and cucumber. No cereal, and premixed tea and coffee in a large pot). Due to overcrowding at breakfast time, the staff sometimes take away the toaster to speed things up. Pets are allowed in this hostel so don't be surpirsed to see large dogs roaming the hallways or eating stuff off the benches in the kitchen. There are three public computers, but they are always in use and sometimes they are password protected and not usable. Wifi is available in the dorm rooms ONLY, and not in social or kitchen areas, making it hard to find a place to use your laptop when people are trying to sleep, and making it frustrating when drunk people stumble into the room at 2, 3, & 4am and giggle loudly at their facebooks for hours because they have no other place to do it. There are not enough showers and toilets, and it can be frustrating when you are trying to have a shower and people are constantly ripping at the door handle. It's even more frustrating when there's no hot water as there appeared to always be enough for about 3-4 showers as our group found out.I would not recommend this hostel to anyone unless there are no other places to stay.

Liked: good hostel. they let me print something out for free. also towel hire was free and the staff were very helpful. they also offered free homemade soup for everyone, and it was delicious. the only communal area though is near reception and most of the time no-one hangs out there. but overall its a good hostel.
