Disliked: The dormitories were small for the amount of beds in them, and there was no comfortable seating area in which to chill out.

Liked: Right in the centre of everything!! Staff really helpful

Disliked: Check in times were not very helpful, between 9.30 and 12 then only 5-9pm not brilliant when arriving between those hours

Liked: It really was like a home from home, staff were brilliant. It also could not have been in a better location, inside the palace walls, straight into the main hustle and bustle of the amazing old town.

Disliked: There was one rocky step which got me every time I walked in or out the hostel ha!

Liked: Al is a fantastic host. He is extremely friendly with a great sense of humour. The hostel is small but very friendly and as a result you feel at home and meet many other like minded travellers. The location is perfect, right near the center of Split and Al can provide a wealth of local information. I would recommend Al's place highly to anyone thinking of staying in Split. Cheers Al!

Liked: The common area/kitchen brings people together and the location is right in the centre of town. Al is very helpfull and always willing to advise on a range of topics!

Disliked: Constantly locking and unlocking two doors when going in and out (especially for a cigarette) got a bit tedious!

Liked: I enjoyed Al and the people that were staying there, he was very friendly and very helpful. We all went for drinks and had a good night out. If you are looking for a place to meet people this is it. The location is great.

Disliked: It was very hot and stuffy with a full dorm. Al had said he would turn the A/C on at night but only did so for a short time in the morning...basically non-existent. There were no lockers to secure your backpack/bag and though Al mentioned that there had been no recorded theft yet, it would have been nicer and more comforting if there were some proper lockers. Also, for a dorm of 7 people there was only 1 bathroom which housed the shower as well.

Liked: Absolutely fastastic, the atmosphere was fun and friendly and the owners were extremely helpful and nice!!! I would reccommend it to anyone!

Liked: The staff are very friendly and helpful, and Al was able to make some great recommendations for places to eat. the hostel is really well located although Split's mazelike network of pedestrian alleyways can be difficult to navigate if you dont have a sense of direction, a map, and/or common sense. the hostel is kept exceptionally clean with staff attending to the communal areas virtually every couple of hours. Given that the hostel is a smaller hostel (14 beds) it gives the inhabitants a chance to socialise and to get to know each other more closely than some of the bigger "party" hostels, and as long as you aren't a social recluse then this hostel was perfect for meeting people. internet is charged at 5HRK for 20mins but proceeds go to a charity founded in cambodia which is as worthy a cause to pay internet for as any. overall an excellent stay

Liked: Its hard to rate the hostel as we were actually put in an apartment down the road. We were initially disappointed as we wanted to stay in a hostel but it was our own fault as apparently it was stated on the website when we booked. However we got a lovely big double room with a fan which as a couple was perfect for us. Location was brilliant and we really enjoyed our stay. It was very cheap for such a nice room

Disliked: When youre in the apartment you have nothing to do with the hostel. Would have liked to meet a few people.

Liked: The location is ideal, it really feels like you're in the heart of the city and living with the locals. This is a small hostel with a homely feel, easy to meet other guests in the dorm or kitchen and Lydia is very helpful with local info. Al has a special character and does his best to accommodate guests every need - he heard my comment about a lack of a fan in the kitchen and one magically appeared (though was whisked away again later). His favourite pet hate is sex in dorms - so let that be a warning to you frisky folk!!

Disliked: The air con in the dorms came on very late and was turned off very early, a couple of extra hours would be appreciated!

Liked: location

Disliked: The dorms were small, dark, cramped and stuffy. There was an AC unit on a timer during the night. The owner was quite reluctant to put it on during the day when we asked him to. We had travelled a long distance and wanted to rest. He put it on for 10/15mins but not before giving us a lecture on it

Liked: Very helpful owner, great location, great atmosphere.

Disliked: The rating I'm giving is a bit harsh, because based on other travellers' experiences, the hostel is better value for money than most places in Split. That being said, a hostel without WiFi and lockers (though valuables can be stored with the owner) and with one bathroom per 7 people should not cost what it did (especially in Croatia).

Liked: Clean, and a very good location.

Disliked: Air conditioning comes on too late at night (one night not until 12 am) and turns off too early. It seemed that toilet paper consumption was being monitored and the staff went overkill on trying to conserve energy by turning off the lights ( we were eating breakfast with the lights on and the staff turned off the lights while a noticeable group of 4 of us were still eating and it was dark. Very rude. The manager shuts off the internet at night and also there were no safety lockers. Stay would be great if the management werent so overbearing and obsessed with cost cutting.

Liked: The owner Al and the other girl working there were extremely helpful and accomodating, if you go to Split definetly check out the Black Cat, amazing food!

Disliked: No wifi, but that is both good and bad.

Liked: Great location, right in the middle of old town Split. Affordable.

Disliked: No wifi, had to pay for use of the one computer. Laundry seemed to be only for use of the staff. Rather cramped dorm rooms. Al is a friendly character, but uptight about the many little rules and regulations of the hostel, and was a little overbearing.

Liked: Great location and very easy to meet people if you're travelling alone.

Disliked: Alan is an aquired taste and can rub some people up the wrong way. This hostel is so small that you have to like it or lump it really.

Liked: Al was great, very helpful. Split is a fairly small city so the hostel was located an easy walking distance from pretty much anything you would want to see.

Disliked: It was a small hostel, so depending on your tastes, it might not appeal to you. However, I found it quite relaxing.
