Pula is a town and port in the south-western part of Istria with a population over 60,000. It is situated in the inner part of a bay, divided by the islands of St. Catherine, St. Andrew and Uljanik into three port basins. Pula is the most important and biggest port in Istria, and the well-protected Pula Bay place it among the best natural harbors on the Adriatic. Due to its size, exposed location, accessibility and low coastline Pula is also of strategic importance.
The landscape of Pula includes low and open relief largely covered by red soil. The average temperature in January reaches 5°C and in July 23.2°C; the average annual rainfall attains around 800mm. Today Pula offers a variety of entertainment for visitors. Events include the Croatian Film Festival, held every year since 1954 in the Arena (July), a Pop Music Festival also held in the Arena every July.
The most popular Festivals in last few years are Outlook and Dimensions. Outlook festival is a musical event hosting all kinds of bass music held just outside of the city of Pula. Although held in Croatia, many of the attendees come from Great Britain as do much of the team involved in organizing the festival. Held in Fort Punta Christo and the surrounding beaches the festival is unique in its setting, with sound systems and stages being erected in various tunnels and even the moat of the abandoned ruins.
The festival also plays host to a number of boat parties which feature artists from the festival and sail around the Adriatic coastline playing more a more individual selection of music that other stages around the festival.
