Situated near to Dubrovnik is a group of little islands, which the ancient Greeks named Elafiti (the deer's islands). In the deep cove of the greatest island, Sipan, you can find the typical Dalmatian village of Sipanska Luka.

The inhabitants of this village, far from main tourist routes, live by rhythm of their ancients. The myths, the rich history of island gentry, the summer-residences of Dubrovnik's landed gentry, dense Mediterranean vegetation, crystal clear water and still summer nights make for the perfect escape from the bustle and stress of the city life.

The proximity of Dubrovnik (one hour by local ship or ten minutes by ferry to the coastal village of Slano) makes it easy to frequent historical monuments in Dubrovnik and its surroundings.

Accommodation Information

This area is surrounded by olive, carob and tangerine trees and grape vines. The apartment of 55 m² has a large terrace with a wonderful view of the sea. The apartment also has a separate entrance with its own courtyard.

It consists of 2 bedrooms of 18 m² each, kitchen with dining room and bathroom.

One of the bedrooms has double-bed, and the other one has 2 separate beds, which can be joined when needed.

If necessary, a spare bed can be placed in each room. One of the bedrooms has satellite TV, and both of them have air-conditioning.

The kitchen is fully equipped: it has a gas stove with hood, refrigerator, sink (hot and cold water), all necessary dishes (frying pan, pots) and dining set for 5 (plates, glasses, cups, forks).

In the bathroom, there is a shower-bath with a boiler and washing machine. On the terrace you can find garden table with chairs, and deck-chairs.

Location Information

Sipanjska Luka is a place with 150 inhabitants during the winter months, a number which is multiplied by ten times during the summer.

Swimming is allowed throughout the cove. An unwritten rule says that in vicinity of asphalt shores you are obliged to swim in swim-suits (except in Prijezba cove), while nudists and topless swimmers share all other coves. There are three private restaurants, two supermarkets, a post office, a hotel, and a disco run by Sipan youth, as well as an ambulance (an out-patient clinic). There are two doctors on call.

Beside Sipanjska Luka there is another small place on the island called Sudurad (4 km by asphalt road through Sipan field), which is a fishermen’s place emerged around fortifications of Dubrovnik Republic.

You will find more about the island, its history, summer houses and legends through conversations with locals and hiking paths along the island.

The island of Sipan is situated 30 km from Dubrovnik, opposite to Slano on the mainland. If you travel by car I recommend the shortest route from Croatian border – Zagreb – Karlovac – Slunj – Plitvice Lakes – Korenica – Udbina – Gracac – Knin – Sinj – Trilj – V. Cista – Cista Provo – Sestanovac – Adriatic road – Makarska – Ploce – Neum – Slano – Dubrovnik.
