Liked: We enjoyed every moment of our stay at Rooms Matea. Sven and Stanka were fantastic hosts. They provided us with lots of information on Dubrovnik and recommended some wonderful places to see and things to do. They were extremely warm and friendly. The location of Rooms Matea is perfect. It is very close to the Old Town and we felt very safe walking around the area. The room was clean, spacious and had all the amenities we needed. We loved everything about our stay in Rooms Matea.

Liked: The room is clean, well accomodated and well equipped. The staff is very nice and helpful. They are willing to help us and give us advices. The bathroom is also clean, modern. The situation is not very favorable but not far from the old city district, it is a good compromised between price and anf distance to old town. It takes 10 min. to go down, 15 min. to go back to the hostel.

Disliked: There are two rooms for one bathroom. It is good if people does not stay too much in it, worse when the bathroom/toilets is blocked 2 hours in the morning when 2 girls prepared themselves :). There is no breakfast provided but a kettle and a fridge are there.

Liked: Everything. We were welcomed very warmly by our hosts Stanka and Sven. They also recommended what to do in the city and around. From our nice and very clean room we had a great sea view. We also liked the little terrace for having breakfast.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Sven and Stanka were so friendly and really helpful. Great view and nice room.

Disliked: Bit of a walk to get back from Oldtown which was challenging in the heat but not too bad.

Liked: The room was great, quiet and in walking distance from everything :-) the facilities were perfect, and Sven and Stanka were so wonderful, they exceeded all our expectations. We want to come back!

Liked: Stanka and Sven were extremely welcoming and friendly. When we arrived (they picked us up from the bus station at no extra cost) they offered us a drink on the veranda and showed us a map of the city and pointed out various sights and activities. The rooms and bathroom were spotless and the room was very secure. There was a fridge and a kettle which was useful. We stayed in a twin room which had a really nice view. The location was excellent, only a ten minute walk to the old town which felt really safe - even at night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definately recommend this guest house.

Liked: Rooms Matea was a special stay for us, despite challenging extenuating circumstances. We blew a tire about 30km away, around 10pm on the night of our check in. We called and spoke with the property owner/manager, Sven, who was truly only interested in helping us and trying to get us out of the mess of being squished on the side of a tiny road between speeding trucks and the Adriatic cliffs, unable to drive or walk to any hotels, for a whole night. We did end up sleeping in our car as many European cars don't come equipped with spare tires, and Croatian Auto Club couldn't get to us until 0800 the next morning. However, Sven was amazing as we arrived around noon on day two, keeping our room ready, being available to chat with us, bringing us wine and beer to try and make our visit calm down and improve. Then, he and his wife went out of their way to spend time with us planning our visit (which was fantastic) and generally getting around southern Croatia. Sven and his wife, who operate Rooms Matea, aren't just helpful concierges, but instead acted as if they'd adopted us and really felt us feel like part of their family for the two days we were there. With the time crunch resulting from our flat tire adventure, they also let us return and change/shower after our checkout, leave our bags, etc etc. There was nothing they couldn't or didn't want to do to help us and ensure our stay was extraordinary. Great people, clean comfortable property, great view and good location. We wish we could clone them and drop a Rooms Matea in every town!

Disliked: The only potentially confusing thing is that the street Rooms Matea sits on is Od Gaja, which is a pedestrian street - you can't drive right to it. Park on the automobile road a couple blocks down, and walk up to Rooms Matea! Not "dislike," just a little confusing to a first-time visitor!

Liked: The couple who own the house are really lovely and helpful people. They sat us down with a nice cold beer and gave us directions on where we needed to go and advice on what we should see. The room was nice and only a short walk to the old town of Dubrovnik. Stanka happily picked us up from the bus station even though it came in fairly late and she dropped us back there, too.

Disliked: There was nowhere to sit and hang out, play cards or have some drinks. When it gets hot in Dubrovnik and you just want to relax somewhere cool, this property does not have that facility.

Liked: The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, and gave us a warm welcome to Croatia, a good start to the holiday. They even went above and beyond what was required and helped move the car to a suitable location early in the morning.

Disliked: The area was hilly and coming from The Netherlands where everything is flat, it was a long climb, but this is how the area is so wont be any different at any other place.

Liked: Rooms Matea was my favorite place we stayed in Crotia!! The owners felt like my personal family friends. They were so warm and shared lots of local information and stories with us. The view and the room was lovely. I felt secure and comfortable. I was even able to do my laundry!

Disliked: The room we stayed it didnt have any A/C so it was a little hot, but the fan and the windows were fine. Going down the hill to town is easy, but the uphill is easier by 5 min taxi from the main gate of Dubrovnik. Shared bathroom.

Liked: Great location close to the Old Town (10 mins on the way down the hill, a bit longer on the way back up). Sven and Stanka are really friendly and helpful - Sven picked us up for free from the bus station and then his wife offered us a cold beer while she explained all the best sights and places to eat in Dubrovnik. The accommodation itself is really comfortable, and our room had an ensuite shower room & toilet, as well as a mini fridge with freezer compartment, plates, glasses and cutlery, and even a kettle and sachets of tea and coffee! It felt more like staying in a nice small hotel than a cheap private room, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Dubrovnik unless you have difficulty climbing stairs, as it is an uphill climb from the Old Town. Great comfort and value for money, and the owners were so welcoming that they told us to feel free to join them for a beer in the evenings, but unfortunately this was the last destination on our tour of the Croatian coast, so we stayed out til quite late every night and didn't take them up on the offer, although I definitely would if we were to return to the city.

Liked: This a very friendly family run home. It is close to the bus station and within walking distance of the old town. It was good to have a washing machine and the option of a bath or shower! It was very clean and quiet. Highly reccommend

Liked: The owners are so welcoming and friendly. They went to the bother of picking us up for free from the bus station at Gruz. They also invited us into their home for drinks on their balcony and chatted to us lots about Croatia and Ireland. Would highly recommend this accomodation to any traveller - 5 star service - much better than any hotel.

Disliked: Nothing it was better than perfect!!

Liked: Great place to stay - Sven & Stanka were so accomodating, and very friendly. Cute room with queen sized bed overlooking ocean. Had everything we required - fridge, bowls/plates/cutlery, little table & chair in room to eat breakfast at, clean shower/toilet. 10-15 minute walk to old town. This is the best hostel we have ever stayed in

Liked: Great location with a fab view from the bedroom. Sven and his wife were so friendly and coudn't do enough for you. Sven picked us up from the bus station and welcomed us with a glass of beer whilst he told us all the best places to visit. A great find!

Liked: Extremely friendly and helpful couple who collected us on time from airport, gave us cold welcome drinks and loads of information. The room was very small but spotlessly clean and had everything possibly needed provided. Quiet and secure.

Disliked: No room to unpack or put backpack or suitcase.

Liked: Sven and Stanka the owners were absolutely lovely - gave us fantastic information about Dubrovnik and were very welcoming, sharing a beer with us on a couple of our nights there. Nothing was ever any trouble. The room was clean and compact but had everything that we needed for our stay - including a fridge. We were free to come and go as we pleased, and it was well located for the old town.

Liked: house is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the old town, or a number 8 bus close by. all very friendly and a nice distance from the crowds in the old town. recommend this stay, very clean and tidy, nice views over red roofs.
