I'm used to hotels. This was my first hostel experience and likely to be the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The rooms are like a big studio apartment with a kitchen and balcony. There's a/c and cable tv. My plan was to go from town to town in costa rica but I ended up staying at this hostel in tamarindo for 6 days because it was that comfortable and so many cool people came in and out of it. The english speaking manager was more than helpful and a great guy. There was daily maid service. I'd definitely go back.

It's really a studio apartment, not a hostel. I was happy to have my own apartment and be able to do my own cooking. As for your question about "fun place to meet people and party," it really doesn't apply here because Hotel Chocolate is just an eight-unit apartment building; and besides, I didn't want anyone partying: I wanted quiet. I was very pleased with Hotel Chocolate and had a fine stay there.

We had an amazing time at this hostel. The man running the business was informative, friendly, and genuine. He helped us feel at home and answered all the questions we had about the area. The place felt like a little island of paradise where we could leave our possessions behind in safety, or just stay and hang out to meet good people. It was such a great find we ended up staying two more nights.
