About Casa Zen Guesthouse & Yoga Center
Our helpful, bilingual staff is always ready to help plan other tours and activities in the area, including surf lessons, canopy tours, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), visits to nearby waterfalls, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding, ATV rentals and more. We can also assist you with restaurant recommendations, reservations and travel planning, so your trip can be totally relaxing and worry-free!
Our treetop open air yoga deck will inspire the practiced yogi and beginner alike, with daily classes open to all. Our yoga retreats are ongoing and can be tailored to make your vacation everything you want it to be. Whether an invigorating morning practice, or a meditative afternoon session, our yoga classes and yoga retreats are taught by professional instructors, focusing on the Hatha Vinyasa style. We also offer interval training classes, helping to open the lungs with some serious cardio and strengthening every muscle in the body.
All of tidy, spacious rooms have been designed with the budget traveler in mind, offering guests comfort, cleanliness and charm at a good price. We provide guests a complimentary healthy breakfast each day, and our signature chef’s kitchen is open all day long if you’d like to prepare your own meals.
We invite you to come and enjoy the good vibes, inspiring surroundings and friendly faces at Casa Zen, your home away from home in Costa Rica!
Our guest house offers a variety of options for every traveler. Whether you are looking for a private room, space for a small group, or a bed in a dorm, we have a comfortable place for you.
On the first floor, we have six private rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples or pairs of friends. The rooms have either a double bed or two single beds. We also have two larger private rooms on the first floor, each with beds for three people. Scroll down for photos and prices for our private rooms!
An abundance of shared bathrooms are also located on the first floor (there are many to choose from and they are always clean!). We also have two well-equipped communal kitchens, including our signature chef’s kitchen, complete with a professional quality stove, microwave, blenders, and a giant stainless steel refrigerator. The chef’s kitchen is open to guests between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., while a second shared kitchen is available 24 hours.
Upstairs you will find the apartment plus three additional rooms with varying capacities, featuring exterior doors as well as interior doors connecting to the apartment. This allows us some flexibility in renting them out depending on the size of your group.
The apartment itself has a capacity of two people, with a full-sized bed, hot water shower, full kitchen and television with DVD player. With the configuration upstairs, the apartment can be rented by itself, or with 1-, 2-, or 3-bedrooms attached, for a maximum capacity of 14 people. When the adjoining rooms are rented independent of the apartment, there is no access between the rooms and apartment. Scroll down to see photos and prices for our apartment and adjoining rooms.
Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are rather remote beach towns, and that’s what makes them so special! Thankfully, even though we’re a little off the beaten path, there are still quite a few services available to visitors. At the crossroads between Mal Pais and Santa Teresa (locally known as “the cruce,” pronounced “crew-say”) where buses and cars arrive into town, there are two banks with ATMs. These are the only ATMs in town, so to make sure to get your money while you’re at the cruce!
There is also a pharmacy, a dental office, a small clinic and an emergency lifeguard at the crossroads. For medical emergencies, doctors are available at a clinic in nearby Cobano, a public hospital in Puntarenas and several private hospitals in San Jose.
There are a surprising number of supermarkets throughout Santa Teresa, and one is conveniently located directly across the road from Casa Zen. Most supermarkets open at 7am and close at 10pm. There is also an organic market held at the beach every Saturday afternoon, which is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike.
Both US dollars and Costa Rica colones are accepted everywhere. Cash is always the preferred method of payment, and many restaurants and shops do not accept credit cards.
