Basic but clean & more than adequate. However, the host, Mikey completely made the stay. His sole purpose was to ensure we had the best experience, which he delivered and more. Such a great, friendly and warm host. Can't speak highly enough.
Had an awesome time at this little gem of a guesthouse-hostel. The owner was very welcoming and knowledgable about the area. Onsite spa services were fabulous and economical. Robin was very helpful in booking area tours. It was a great value and I had a great time.

JulioCesar and his family are very nice people. You will like the rooms. The breakfast "typico" is great. Great if you have a car to go to fortuna at night for dinner. Otherwise a taxi is around 2000 colon each way
The owner Hernan was so nice & the hostel grounds (more like a nice hotel) were beautiful with a great view of the volcano. This is definitely one of the most luxurious places I have stayed in terms of hostels and the breakfast was huge & delicious served like you're at a restaurant.

After a very long trip the staff were warm and welcoming. The views are amazing. The walk to the farm was spectacular. The food was delicious and well worth the cost.
I liked the location in the National Park, away from the touristy La Fortuna. Staff, food and rooms are just incredible and absolutely worth the money.

This a hotel not a hostel so you get treated as such. It was nice and clean, the staff were extremely friendly, not only helping when needed but sitting down and suffering through our bad spanish for a chat. The cable tv was a highlight after so long on the road.
It's great value for money, but if you're lookíng for a place to find new friends or party you might consider booking a hostel instead. I wanted a good nights sleep in a comfy bed and a clean private bathroom and found just what I needed for a low cost. The wifi in my room was very slow, but there are computers downstairs in the lobby and perhaps it's faster down there (I never gave it a try because I didn't consider it much of a problem).

Miguel and Carmen are the owners and staff. They do an excellent job of keeping the property clean pretty and both are very welcoming and kind.
Carmen and Miguel, the owners, were wonderful. The grounds were clean, well landscaped and pleasant. It was close to the La Fortuna Catarata (waterfall) - so we hiked there - fantastic place.

We had an amazing time! The staff were so helpful and friendly, the facilities were very clean, and it has a very central location which made it easy to get around town. The hostel is also absolutely beautiful; it's tempting just to stay there for the whole visit! I absolutely would recommend it to anyone traveling to Arenal.
Staff was amazingly helpful and took care of planning tours, transportation, etc.

This place is perfect! One of the best hostels we've ever stayed at (and we've stayed at A LOT). Great kitchen fully stocked, a big machine with instant cold and hot water, big dining area. Rooms were quite big and amazingly clean all the time, the staff never seem to stop cleaning all day. Staff are very friendly and love to have a laugh. Location is great, 2 minute walk from centre of town, but on a dead end street so its very quite at night. We stayed here for 4 nights and wanted to stay longer just for the hostel.
We stayed here for two nights. The hostel is super clean, the cleanest on our trip so far. We stayed here an NYE and the family that owns the hostel had a party and let us drink and eat with them for free. The location is super quiet and super relaxing, not the typical party backpacker atmosphere.

We had a great time at the Sleeping Indian! Gerald and Pete were very friendly and always ready to help with reservations and advice. It's in a great location, close to some really great restaurants and shops, located on a fairly quiet street.
As a single female traveler (taking a side trip from a business trip), I chose the Sleeping Indian for its value and because of the extraordinary reviews I read about the kind, welcoming, and exceedingly helpful host/owner, Gerald, on various sites (airbnb, hostelworld, hostelbookers, etc.). Even after reading these reviews, Gerald surpassed my expectations on every level. Gerald or his mother ("Mama") is at the guesthouse at all times--Mama does not speak much English so have some key phrases (or good gesturing skills) handy. Gerald speaks perfect English and was immensely helpful in planning my activities. He made calls to tour companies and got better prices than advertised for me and another guest at the house. He went above and beyond to find me a way to kayak in the lake (which was difficult because I was solo and it was low season). He accompanied me and another guest on a hike up Cerro Chato when an official tour was not available. He even took us to the public hot springs at night with a flashlight. He is extremely knowledgeable about the country, the flora, and the animals of Costa Rica and it is clear that he is passionate about them. He is not just doing a job and running a hostel; he is enjoying what he does and welcoming you into his home--country and house. I truly felt at home sitting on the couch at night with a cup of tea. The accommodations were simple and basic but clean and comfortable. No AC but there was a large fan--it got hot during the daytime but was cool and comfortable at night when I slept. (And I'm a hot sleeper!) My bed and pillow were comfortable, and I found that I had enough shelving/tables to put my stuff. (I hung wet clothes outside on the clothesline to dry.) Mama offered me coffee every morning, and the kitchen facilities were available to use. (Try water with chan seeds! Very refreshing and good for your digestive system.) I always felt safe and that my stuff was safe. The town was safe to walk at night, and the guest house is gated with a heavy duty lock.
