Cerro Chato Eco Lodge

Located at the base of the Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica (2.5 kms. from La Fortuna, on the road to Catarata Río's Fortuna and only 15minutes by car from Tabacón and Baldi's Hot Springs).

With a spectacular view of the southeast side of the volcano, we have the advantage of being at a slightly higher altitude than La Fortuna, thus cooler. Also, we are off the main road enough to avoid the sound of grinding gears that are audible from almost all other hotels.

The rooms are very spacious (32m2) with 1 double and 1 single bed, a large private bath with hot water, screened windows, ceiling fans, verandas with table and chairs, and landscaped grounds abundant with tropical flowers and birds. Full breakfast, available lunches, horse rental, laundry, internet service and secure parking lot.

La Fortuna is a small town of about 8000 people located on the Northern of Costa Rica, approximately 140 kms. Northwest of San José and 60 kms. Northwest of Ciudad Quesada.

Accommodation Information

Cerro Chato Eco Lodge has eleven rooms:
Miguelito Room: Four double rooms each with one double and one single bed, private, ensuite bathroom with hot water, ceiling fan, volcano view and parking lot.

Carmencita Room: Five double rooms, each with one double bed, private, ensuite bathroom with hot water, ceiling fan, volcano view and parking lot.

Pluto Room: Two double rooms, each with one double bed, shared bathroom with hot water, ceiling fan and parking lot.

Location Information

Our lodge offers private transportation to our lodge from the San Jose airport or any San José hotel for $130.00. Please let us know the airline name, arrival time and flight number, or name of your hotel as it is a door to door service.

We can also arrange transportation by shuttle bus (door to door service) for $39.00 per person from the airport or your hotel.

If you are going to, or coming from, Monteverde, we can arrange transportation by jeep-boat-jeep across Lake Arenal, which is a faster and more scenic route, for $25.00 per person leaving at 8:15 am and 2:15 pm. It is a hotel to hotel service.

We are a 35 minutes walk from downtown La Fortuna. A taxi from our lodge to town is $3.00.

By rental car from San Jose:
Take Route 1 north to San Ramon, then Route 141 north towards Arenal Volcano/La Fortuna. It will be well sign posted. Watch for the Arenal Volcano signs. When you reach the traffic light intersection on the main road in La Fortuna, go left on the main road heading towards the volcano. Exactly 1.5 miles later, you will see a cemetery on your right and a big supermarket on the left corner of the road. Turn left and follow the signs for Las Cataratas /Waterfalls. After the road forks to the left, Cerro Chato Eco Lodge is about 800 meters on the left. Driving time is 3 hours.
