Liked: Hotel Pacande is a great place to stay in Alajuela! We were only minutes from the downtown area, so we were able to walk almost everywhere. It's safe and secure, you need to ask them to unlock to the door to let you in and out. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean. And the back part of the hotel was gorgeous! I would definitely stay there again.

Liked: The people who own this place are the nicest, most hospitable people I have met at a hostel. They are always available to help, and know a lot about the surrounding area. The hostel is located right in the middle of Alajuela, about 2 blocks from the central park. The owners lock the door both inside and out, so to get out you have to ask them to unlock it, as well as to get it (not a problem since they're always around, makes you feel safe). Very clean, and the breakfast is great in the morning.Alajuela isn't a really good place to do much, there is a market and the central park, but it's really a very tightly packed concrete grid. The hostel is a good place to base your trip to San Jose out of though since you're far enough from the gridlock of the capitol, and you're real close to bus stations that take you anywhere (about 6 blocks at the farthest)

Liked: We visited this hostel with our family of two children (1 2yr old and 1 5 month old). The staff were excellent, friendly, great with children and generally welcoming ' really felt like a home from home!
