Liked: The hostel is in a great location.. very close to Estadio metro station, so the whole city is easily accessible, and if you like sports you can utilize all of the facilities at the stadium for free. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Nice kitchen. Comfortable beds. But the best thing about the hostel is the weekly events that draw plenty of locals, along with a slew of other gringos who aren't staying in the hostel. The Paisa is a perfect spot to begin your Medellin adventure and make some new friends!

Disliked: Got a bit overcrowded on the weekends.

Liked: Stayed here in my first week in Medellin. It's a very vibrant hostel with events going on everyday that make a success of bringing locals and travellers together. Solely for that reason I would have to say that The wandering Paisa is the best hostel in Medellin. I have stayed at 3 hostels here and this one came out on top by far. The location is also something very appealing to me as you get to see the posh barrio of Laureles nearby and there are tons of bars club restaurant etc nearby. The owner (I think his name is Brian) will always have a smile on his face .DO YOU SELF A FAVOUR AND STAY AT THE WANDERING PAISA.

Disliked: There was not anything I disliked about this hostel.

Liked: Wonderful atmosphere, and well organized. They have social activities in the evening which attract many locals. Spacious and well equipped kitchen. Cheap beers I the bar. The owner is often present in the hostal, making sure everyone's happy. Open mic night on saturdays atracts a lot of good local musicians. That was my favorite experience. The surroundings are also very nice. With the great sports center, the soccer stadium 4 blocks down the street by the metrostation. A ten minute walk brings you to the foot of cerro el volador that has fantastic panorama view of Medellin. Staying at the wandering paisa is a great adventure, and Im very happy I could live there a whole week.

Disliked: only thing that could be better is that you have to pay for using the computers, and i think this should be a free service.

Liked: Not located in the tourist zone, so there was more interaction with the locals!

Disliked: The staff was somewhat helpful, but it was too loud most of the time! In addition, they seem to promote drinking, where as I prefer a safer alternative(that is discouraged here)!

Liked: The Wandering Paisa had a great, friendly atmosphere that made it the perfect entrance to Medellin. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and the other guests and residents were fun and welcoming. It has a great social environment with frequent events (Salsa lessons, language exchange, open mic night) to get you meeting people and making friends. I would definitely recommend it!

Disliked: Not the staff's fault, but the wifi on the second floor stopped working while I was there. Not a huge deal as there was still internet on the first floor, but it was a minor inconvenience.

Liked: Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, always ready to help patiently with detailed information about the hostel itself, sights that could be seen, how to get there economically, and more. Staff were highlights of a stay in this most pleasant place, which is also in a comfortable neighborhood filled with good stores, restaurants, and night-life options, yet not filled with tourists. In a stay here you can really see Medellin, and start to get to know Colombia.

Liked: Wandering Paisa is a hotel like few I've been to in Europe, Asia or elsewhere in South America. It is very comfortable, with a living room, a terrace with hammocks, a large kitchen in which to cook for yourself (though I preferred sampling the food on the streets and restaurants nearby) and a bar in which to drink the local brews, Medellin rum and the classic Colombian aguardiente (fire water--which describes itself very well). The staff members are extremely knowledgeable, of Medellin, environs and scheduling travel to other parts, and they not only speak English well, but they also are very patient with conversing in beginners who want to practice Spanish (cést moi, pardon my French). But these are not the primary reasons that I love Wandering Paisa: the owners offer an opportunity that is like few others: when I travel, I really seek to meet the locals, but it's often difficult. Wandering Paisa brings them to you: every Thursday, they host an "ïntercambio," or language exchange, which is well-attended by Colombians (and a few expats who no longer stay at the hostel) looking to practice their English and who make practicing Spanish a delight, all lubricated by a few cervezas in the bar. Wandering Paisa also hosts free group salsa lessons on Tuesdays (once again, well-attended by Colombians--I assumed that dance was in their blood, salsa-ing out of the womb, stereotype not true) and they host varies other events (e.g., open mic nights and karaoke nights). Sometimes a group goes out to the local bars afterwards, with more opportunities to interact and dance with the paisas. Finally, the hostel is located in the wonderful neighborhood of Laureles, well-served by the safe, clean, quiet elevated Metro. I wanted to stay away from the tourist party scene (El Poblado is worth a visit, but there is a Hooters there--really?!?), and Laureles is a safe, middle-class neighborhood where I felt safe walking at night (though only on the well-lit, main streets). I stayed at WP for a five days in December (I planned to stay two, but I stayed for their very-fun anniversary party, and I stayed for about a week and a half last month (4/2013). I took some Spanish lessons from one of the staff-she was an excellent teacher, starting with a conversation to understand areas for improvement and crafting lessons and exercises to focus on your individual needs.

Disliked: On a couple nights, some of the younger guests were inconsiderate with noise in the late hours (like any hostel), but for the most part they observed (and staff enforced) quiet hours (without restrictions on coming & going from the property).
