About Tomate Café Hostel

Conveniently situated in the central square of Guatapé (Since January 2014), in front of the beautiful and historic church, we offer economic and comfortable accommodation away enough of the noisy party zone (our previous location). From our backyard garden, you can enjoy a coffee and share with other travelers. We have tables in front of the hostel so you can watch the life of the pueblo, as you relax and have a beer or meal. The hostel is located just few meters from the lake. Tomate Café Hostel is owned and operated by a warm Colombian family, where someone is always available to assist you. We are fluent in both English and Spanish.

Many services and extras are available. We offer healthy and vegetarian food from our on-site kitchen/restaurant, international and local full all prepared by a cheff. We also rock-climbing, hiking tours to waterfalls and around the area, free information for tourists about the area and logistics for the next part of your journey.

Accommodation Information

We offer accommodations in shared and private rooms:

-The dormitory has 3 double bunk beds with accommodation for a maximum of 6 people. (Garden View)
-We have private rooms with double bed and bunk beds with TV and Private bathroom for 2 to 4 people.
-Private single rooms come with a double and single bunk bed, TV, private bathrooms.

Location Information

Tomate Café Hostel is close to all the attractions that make Guatapé famous. This includes the lake avenue and the giant rock (Piedra del Peñol) with a grand staircase and picturesque view of the area, as well as the beautiful architecture of the town known as ´Pueblo de Zócalos´, named for the beautifully sculpted and painted depictions of village life that adorn the lower half of most buildings in the town center. On weekends, the waterfront boardwalk and central square fill with local vendors selling Paisa arts and crafts, fresh food, and souvenirs. The adventurous can choose between a ride on the Cable Vuelo, a canopy zip line high over the lake with lovely views, and a unique attraction where the adventurer is launched high into the air with a few moments to reorient their body for a soft landing (or dive) into the water. Popular boat tours visit the former site of Viejo Peñol, a town which was submerged by the creation of the reservoir, and is now marked by a giant memorial cross. Other popular boating destinations include La Manuela, Pablo Escobar´s now bombed-out lakeside mansion, and ¨Isla de la Fantasia¨, a pretty refuge in the middle of the reservoir, which has a swimming area. For those who enjoy a lively party or just enjoying a beer with the locals, we are close to the liveliest clubs and bars Guatapé has to offer.
