Liked: The layout.

Disliked: One shower for several large dorms due to renovations and not so much as a sign apologising.

Liked: Nicely refurbished building, with good facilities and nice communal areas. Good breakfast

Disliked: Candelaria is not a safe area at night, although this is obviously not a comment specific to this hostel and goes equally for all other hostels in the area. Each bed in the dorms has curtains...while this is positive for increased privacy, it does not encourage communication and I found the Masaya hostels not to be the most social ones in terms of meeting people. Noise - is an issue here. In the rooms you can hear every word spoken in the communal courtyard, even if this is not a particularly loud conversation. Some genius had the idea of putting in place a metal staircase and balcony to access the upper floor rooms - no matter whether you walk in trainers, boots, high heels, it will generate alot of noise. I did not sleep well during my stay at this hostel. I also did not think that is was a good idea to allow people to check in at 8am as inevitably this will disturb everyone else in the room.

The property's response is

Hello,
Thank you for your feedbacks!
We take very seriously your opinion into consideration. About the noise, we are going to make some constructions by enlarging the hostel and change the dispositions of the rooms to improve the problems of noises. We are satisfied that you appreciate the facilities, the communal areas and the good breakfast proposed by the hostel Masaya Bogota!

Best regards,

Liked: Brilliant friendly helpful staff. Sociable atmosphere and still had best nights sleep due to comfy mattresses and duvets! Perfect location for exploring the city.

Disliked: Beware of taxis ripping you off between hostel and airport. Try to organize the price with hostel person present before you leave.

Liked: Super clean, lovely staff, a dance class was put on one night which was awesome! Breakfast is cheap and great value for money if you can't be bothered to cook, but the kitchen is well equipped and always clean :) overall a great stay, very happy

Disliked: Our beds didn't have curtains (somehow on they were on the wall side of the bed?) but that's the only thing and very minor!

Liked: Great staff were very helpful, met a lot of interesting people as well. There are plenty of good areas to hang out and the bar/restraunt is well worth a look, especially live music on sundays.

Disliked: Closes down relatively early if your looking for more of a party atmosphere but then again the bars of bogota offer a very reasonable alternative
