Liked: No smoking rule. Laundry facilities. Location. Good showers. Lots of shared public space.

Disliked: The place needs some attention and looks neglected. Yes, lockers were availble but they were too small to be useful. Bathroom sinks are very shallow and impractical. Staff did not speak English - so had to communicate through other guests. Staff would not call a taxi for me.

Liked: The location is good, and nearby there is a noodle restaurant, the noodes is good (only for breakfirst)

Disliked: Because the Hostel watertown is in the storic city center, so the house is a little poor and not very comfortable, maybe because the reason is summer.

Liked: Rooms were good sized and shared bathroom was clean. If you take the bus from the train station, the stop you need is right in front of a hospital and the street for the hostel will be just to the north of the hospital. It is a decent walk to the gardens, but everything is so spread out that this is unavoidable no matter where you stay.

Disliked: Bathrooms had no toilet paper. You had to get some from reception and carry it back and forth by yourself.

Liked: Good location, easy to find from bus stations / train stations. Friendly staff. Nice shower & toilet block - very clean and hot water always available.

Disliked: We booked a mixed dorm but on arrival got told it was single sex only - as a couple we probably wouldn't have booked the hostel if we had known.

Liked: I met very nice people there but it had nothing to do with the hostel itself.

Disliked: This place is like a monastery: the two entrances gates are locked at midnight (even when there are guests sitting outside, they lock you out and shut the lights!), so whenever you want to go in after midnight, you have to wake up the night guardian who is definitely not smiling when he lets you in. If the cook is not there (she was away for two days during my stay), you can't even get a coffee, because the staff won't do it. And last but not least -I had booked for nine nights and stayed in a private room with bathroom- there is no cleaning: they came to clean my room once because I asked them to, otherwise they would never have come.

Liked: It's really easy to find on the bus from the train station. It's a very quiet and relaxed place to stay with a good communal area for reading or chatting. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Disliked: The location is good for the city centre but not so good for the more scenic areas of Suzhou.

Liked: I did not find the place everybody enjoyed so much. It does the job, no more. But still the DVD selection is fantastic (where else can you find a documentary on A. Tarkovski?).

Liked: the location is good enough to get to the scenic spots easily.

Disliked: the room i stayed at was humid, especially the sheet. maybe the weather in the southern part of China is way too humid, so i'd like to say that the hostel should dry the sheet before the customs arrive.

Liked: I really liked the atmosphere, the animals were a great plus. They made it feel homey and nice. It was also really easy to meet people and they had free dvds and kind and helpful staff. We loved this hostel.

Liked: Very good atmosphere, nice staff and great cozy place for lay back in Suzhou. Love the mini library and must see the dvd collection! There are too many rear and good films that can hardly find in stores. Many local convinient shops around, both bus stop and shuttle to Shanghai airport in 5 mins walk.

Disliked: Not too close to main attractions like Suzhou museum, temples or gardens, have to take bus or taxi.

Liked: The TV corner was very cosy and probably a highlight of the hostel. The western toilets were ok, didn't get round to trying the showers... (sniff sniff..) The view into other people's housing areas from the 2nd floor rooms was interesting. Their lazy labrador was cute. Go to the suzhou no1 silk factory by nanmen (south door) over the river to the left. They gave us a free guided tour when we rocked up. Bit of a walk there after taking the bus.
