Liked: The local food market on the doorstep was amazing, really cheap, fresh local food from real local people. The directions given were accurate and easy to follow, close to metro (Linping Road) and only 4 stops from main train station.

Disliked: The beds were hard hard hard and the shower fittings were coming away from the wall - there wasn't always hot water and although there is a washing machine you can use, it didn't get our clothes very clean.

Liked: This place is awesome!!! The staff are so friendly and their English is good, the water is always hot (don't know what ppl are complaining about), the rooms are fine, and the social area is rad. They even chuck on some free coffee and free food deals, so yeah, highly recommended. I would say, give Jameison a job there as manager, and make it even better. Really awesome though, thanks guys. H.

Disliked: Nothing, except people's super negative reviews which I found offensive!

Liked: The free meal on Saturday night was some of the best food I have had in China. The place is much more relaxed than most Chinese hostels: they don't clean constantly and there is not terrible music whining all day long. They don't try to see you tours.

Disliked: Nothing really.

Liked: It's a great location, next to a fantastic street market. Additionally, the Bund is only a 30 minute walk away.

Disliked: I had heard that Shanghai was known for poor quality budget accomodation. I wanted to experience this and made a booking for the lowest-rated hostel I could find. I wanted to see grime, mould, leaking roofs, disgusting toilets, and filth. I didn't find any of these at InnJoy. In fact, it was a tidy, easy going hostel. The staff were really friendly and they have free dinner on Saturday night.

Liked: The location is quite good for what you pay: not far away from the subway, and surrounded by many small shops.I also liked the building: old but charming, and specially the big common room.Toilets and showers are quite clean, but rooms are full of dust.

Disliked: Some things were broken: the room was almost impossible to open with the key, the window eas broken... The staff is not helpful at all: they play videogames and forget about your questions and problems, or pretend not to understand you.

Liked: The rooms are very spacious, well-kept, clean, and nice to stay in. I would move in here and stay the month. Way better than other Shanghai hostels I've stayed in, and less than half the price!

Disliked: The location isn't too convenient. A few blocks from the metro.

Liked: This hostel is a really good deal, best price in Shanghai for backpackers (if You like staying in 12 bed dorm :)), great common room with a lot of place to sit, drink, eat and do everything You want till late hours. Rooms were clean, only problem is the staff there...

Disliked: STAFF. Two girls which worked there in august were barely speeking English, they didn't know how many guests they have, there were a lot of problems for travellers, we saw a girl fighting for a bed there, despite she booked it 10 DAYS before! Our team waited for room for 6 hours, even if it was not occupied. Also one day i found a guy sleeping in my bed, which was cleaned and maked for another guests. But still it's was the cheapest option in Shanghai (EXPO :( )

Liked: The hostel is in a great location, 5 minutes walk from the metro and right in the heart of Zhoushan Rd market.

Disliked: The property was not clean. It was cleaned once in the morning which meant that after a whole day of people using the common room to eat and drink, there was overflowing bins and rubbish everywhere. I stayed for 5 nights in a private room which was not cleaned once whilst I was there, nor were the bins emptied and as you cannot discard toilet paper in the toilet, this was actually pretty disgusting!

Liked: The bathrooms weren't bad at all with hot water all the time. Night market right outside which is good. Closer to the Bund and city centre than you'd think. Aircon.

Disliked: There were no lockers or any storage in the bedrooms. I stayed for 3 nights and when I went to go to bed on the last night I discovered that staff had moved my stuff off my bed and given my bed to someone else and they then spent a very annoying 40 minutes looking at each other waiting for someone else to think of a solution before moving me to another room. When I demanded some money off the room they first said they couldn't do that, then offered me a free coffee (RMB 12) and when I explained that I didn't want a coffee, I wanted to sleep, they finally gave me 10RMB when I refused to drop it.

Liked: Near the metro, Nice to see an old jewish neighboorhood, with all the chinese people having their little markets in the street. Because the room wasn't really a place where i liked to be, the shared room was really nice to meet people.

Disliked: Bad enlish, very simple room with no daylight and broken toilet seat. Towel must be rent. No tour/ travel facilities. Very few options to get food, no bar, lot of visitors had problems with their bookings/ rooms/ payments. One time i needed toilet paper, there just wasn't!

Liked: "What can you expect from your money? You paid what you get for."

Disliked: The rooms are ok, I took a private room instead of a mixed dorm when I arrived. The room had a little pungy smell when you got in. The carpets leading to the room and the room itself is old and seemed like it hasn't seen a vacuum in ages. Overall, its just ok, nothing outstandingly new and nice. What can you expect from an old hostel or location? This is for those who are really on a budget, but if you can afford a little more, stay at a better location.
