Liked: Not a lot, the location was ok, but not as good as advertised, as being right on the Bund, it's close to a couple of bars, but not really very close to shops, cafes, malls, etc.

Disliked: We were put in separate single-sex dorms despite booking mixed-dorm as we were told they don't actually have any mixed dorms. There is pretty much nowhere to sit and chat with other travelers unless you are willing to pay very expensive prices for a drink in the rooftop bar. The bathrooms were pretty dirty, and stunk of wee. The facilities were useless. There's only wifi on the 6th floor roof bar, but that wasn't working, and the only place to sit up there is in the very expensive bar. There were 2 computers on the ground floor which haven't worked for a long time by the looks of it, so no use of the internet anywhere. Staff were generally aloof and rude, and no help in any question I rose.

Liked: million dollar views from the roof-top garden bar.

Disliked: The MRT stop listed by the hostel gave no exit number. This stop, People's Square, is the largest metro stop in Shanghai (actually, in all of ZChina I think), so without knowing the correct exit number you can spend ages getting to the right route. Maps are lacking in the metros generally and those that do exist are only in Chinese, so knowing the exit number is even more important.

Liked: I like the location of this hostel and the fact that they provide dorms with lockers, luggage and computer deposit that are serious and safe.

Disliked: Bathroom, and especially shower, during the evening are not that clean and in the toilet there is no toilet paper.

Liked: The location is great - right on the bund. The roof top bar and pirate bar are nice but very quiet

Disliked: We arrived at the hostel and I stood for 5 mins at the desk waiting to check in and the receptionist ignored me and other guests. When I asked after 5 mins if i could check in I was told to wait 5 mins. Whe they finally got around to checking us in it was to say that there were no rooms available (even though we had booked 6 weeks in advance) They did however have a new hostel two blocks away so we still had somewhere to stay but we had to walk there with our bog bag having paid a taxi to take us straight to the door.

Liked: This hostel was easy to find and has a rooftop bar with a fantastic view of the Bund situated between the Pearl Tower and the Jin Mao tower.Keep in mind that the drinks are almost as much as a hostel bed.50-60 yuan,so you are paying for the atmosphereThe beds were comfortable and the room fairly spacious.

Disliked: There wasn't an area with couches anywhere that I could see and that doesn't encourage travelers to talk.Also the power points were plentiful,but the one by my bed was loose,so I had to charge my Ipod later somewhere else.

Liked: It's near the Bund, and the view is great, also near a lot of nice things in Shanghai.

Disliked: The beds were really hard, no toiletpaper in the toilets (well that's almost in all toilets in China), no livingroom (I like that to meet other backpackers) and only internet on the 6th floor, in the bar.

Liked: the location is good, as is the view from the rooftop bar

Disliked: this is one of the WORST hostels I have EVER stayed in - the staff, when it comes to giving any help, information or advice are truly useless. with one exception, they do not even attempt to speak or understand english, unless you are looking at paying them, they do not even bother to look up at you or even try and help you. the poor quality and efforts of the help offered were laughable. there is no wifi in the hostel, only in the bar, where you are constantly pressured into ordering expensive drinks, on no occasion was i able to just sit and use the wifi, even when the bar was empty, so short of spending 50yuan for a drink, there is no wifi. also, on each (large) floor, there is only one (dirty) room with toilets and one with showers. it is a long way from the rooms and there are no where near enough facilities for all the many rooms and guests.

Liked: The location really is great.

Disliked: 1- People living in every single dorm. If you are going to stay in a dorm you find people tha live there and have no interest in making a conversation and you will feel like you are staying in their place. 2-No ambience to meet people. 3-The computers didin't work. 4-No wi fi. The only way to check internet was seating outside the bar in the stairs to try to get some of their conexion without paying 30 yuan for a coffee. 5-Staf not very helpful.

Liked: perfect location, nice and helpful staff. worth your money. I like the reception that they decorated as coffee shop, very smart way of doing business.

Liked: The location is great and the dorms are quite nice - literally sailor bunks! Apart from that I was massively disappointed.

Disliked: The mattresses were the worst I've had in China - you could feel the wire mesh digging into your ribs at night. The lack of free wifi was a let down and the bar was ridiculously expensive (40RMB for a small bottle). It wasn't really good for meeting people either - the lobby was nice but more cafe style and the bar was so dark you couldn't see anything anyway. The bathrooms were covered with mould. We moved to the Rock and Wood hostel which was incredible and cheaper - stay there!

Liked: "Momicafe"on first floor - great coffee and GREAT service! One hour of free internet Not very crowded Best beds i stayed in., at hostels in China - I'm 2 metres tall and they were long enough for me, for once! Postcards and stamps sold in cafe on first floor - as well as "mail to future"-service View from rooftop-bar Location superb 5 yuan pr. clothes-wash. Aircon

Disliked: More expensive than other hostels Extremely expensive bar on rooftop No wireless internet and only 2 computers to use in cafe - not enough for the many backpackers Many chinese people living long-term in hostel Absolutely no service from staff; often even rude Stayed 3 nights - dorm was not cleaned during this time From toilet/shower to dorm you have to walk through reception, cafe, diningroom and computer-corner - not very funny when especially chinese people find your morninghair hilarous. No mirror in dorm. Toilet and shower not clean.

Liked: captain hostel was clean, it looked nice considering how cheap it was and how close it was from the bund. the most impressive thing about this hostel was the view up on the 6th floor bar ( with great wifi) it really has THE best view of shanghai!

Disliked: Only problem if it really is one is its a little far from the dtr but thats really it.

Liked: Location is very good and they have a really nice service where you can send your post in the future. Dorm rooms are big and clean and warm too.

Disliked: Bathroom and toilet facilities are little bit worn out, but still okay.
