Liked: Beautiful grounds in a safe area. The buildings had character!

Disliked: It was a bit of a walk to the subway station, but the staff was so helpful in giving directions and there were plenty of maps posted around the lobby area.

Liked: the conditions weren't great...but at least we had clean bed sheets and lockers(although it takes some time to get a lock for your locker from the reception).

Disliked: The staff is not organised( We prolonged our stay with one more day, we paid and when we came back our bedsheets and our personal towels were missing. It took some time to make them understand what is missing and when they finally gave back the towels were soaked wet...and they didn't see it as a problem...), in the mornong we didn't have hot water in our room

Liked: This place mainly attracts a Chinese student clientele who are very friendly and keen to talk. Pleasant surrounds in the forest.

Disliked: Very hard to get to by public transport unless you have speak/read Chinese to understand bus timetables.

Liked: Very friendly staff, always willing to help with anything. One girl (Li Ang) took me shopping in work time to help me out. Another member of staff (Vinsen) helped me to buy a Sim card. Very good value in a quiet location, close to West Lake. Within walking distance (but quite a long walk) or is very simple and cheap to take the bus. Very safe and secure rooms, operated with electronic key, also have lockers availabe should you need them. Good DVD collection. Excellent food available at a good price. Overall a great place to stay!

Disliked: There was only one other foreigner staying in the Hostel while I was there, so with my lack of Mandarin was difficult to meet many other travellers.

Liked: Staff is very friendly and helpfull.

Disliked: They do not change the garbage bag in the litterbins,in our three day stay however, we did not ask them to do this, and they probably would have if we did.

Liked: The staff went out of their way to help me. They provided me with a map and explained a little about the bus service. When I explained that I wanted to book a train from here to Shanghai one of the girls actually went to the train station to book and bring back the ticket.

Disliked: Nothing really....the bed worked and it had a bathroom what more can you want?

Liked: Cheap. Nice people work here.

Disliked: No heat in Winter. Not enough bathrooms or showers. There is only one bathroom and shower for a 12-bed dorm. And there is not enough hot water to go around.

Liked: the hostel was close to the West Lake and for just a few RMB you could reach the city.

Disliked: the choice of food was very poor and the cook was very busy, so that you had only limited access to the meals ;) Vegetable Omelette was the same as Cheese and Mushroom Omelette.. maybe all the other vegetables were meyo ;)

Liked: It was nice and cheap. The rooms were a little small. When we came in the middle of the day the hostel seem dead, but in the afternoon people startet to weake up, and there was a nise atmosphere in the living/TV/reception room.

Disliked: Turn on some light, please ;)

Liked: Generally people in China are friendly and helpful, but what we experience in Touran will stay in our memories for long. Lee, one of staff members, took us to hospital and assisted there although it was his free day. We wouldn't manage to deal with the problem on our own. Moreover, he took us to some interesting places recommended great restaurant. I wish all hostel had such helpful staff.

Disliked: For sightseeing a taxi or bus is needed, but for having food or drink there are plenty of options around.

Liked: Not a bad location for getting to the south part of the West Lake and is well serviced by buses.

Disliked: Staff not overly friendly or helpful, they seemed more interested in playing on the computers (which were meant for guests and meant there was never a computer available, not really an issue but also not what they were intended for). Claimed to serve western and Chinese food but when we tried to order they didn't have any Chinese food. When asked if they could call a taxi for us when we were checking out with heavy bags the receptionist just said we should try and hail one on the road. The room itself was clean but the door didn't lock properly (and when this was pointed out to the staff they didn't seem interested or try and sort it out). The bathroom door also didn't lock and the shower was broken. Also there is a restaurant next door that gets lots of Chinese coach groups visiting it so it can get quite noisy (but don't try and eat in the restaurant if you are white/western, we did and were told in no uncertain terms to leave)

Liked: Li, one of the hostel staff (there only temporarily, I think), couldn't have been warmer or more helpful. The rooms were fairly charming and the lounge very friendly.

Disliked: They lost our reservation, but put us in a nearby hostel for the same rate. Unfortunately, the other hostel had some problems and no English speaking staff, so we moved back to Touran after the first night.
