Disliked: The hostel is very nice but they are currently reconstructing the whole street, probably for the Asian Games.

Liked: The beds are nice, not as hard as usual in china

Disliked: I booked a 4 bed dorm and got a 6 bed. The riverside is covered in plastic "curtains" so you cant see anything from the hostel. They only have breakfast, no dinner. The "barstreet" consists of 30 CLOSED bars.. No fun at all..

Liked: The room was spacious, clean & comfortable & the communal areas were a great place to meet people. The hostel is within easy reach of the Metro system & several nice restaurants. About 30 minutes from either Train Station on the Metro which is really easy to navigate & costs only 50p to get to Guangzhou East Station.

Disliked: We have been travelling in Asia for 5 months & have never had to leave negative feedback anywhere - in fact we have even laughed at people that have & thought 'how bad can it be?'. Well, now we know! The service at this hostel is bad - that is the only way to describe it. The staff regularly ignore you while you are stood at the desk. The internet in the communal area runs really slow & most of the time they tell you that one of the computers doesn't work but 5 minutes later someone is using it. We tried to book train tickets through the hostel & after a lot of eye rolling & sighs from the staff, we were quoted double the price of what we had researched on the internet (we ended up going to the Train Station & booking them directly for a normal price). On the day that we were leaving we asked the girl on the desk to call us a taxi to take us to the train station. Again after a sigh & roll of her eyes, she said that she would try but she doubts that a taxi would come & get us. Suprise suprise no taxi. After walking 50m down the road we managed to find one ourselves who was more than happy to take us. We have never stayed anywhere like this where the staff have been so unwilling to help with anything. Suprised HI & YHA China are willing to be affiliated with/run this hostel.

Liked: It's the only hostel in Guangzhou so I decided to book here. Bad decision! Staff were very unfriendly and it was like everything was an effort for them. One example - I wanted to book a train ticket (train station is atleast 30-40min subway ride away) as it's easier in China to book with hostels. The staff rolled their eyes and laughed at me and said they couldn't do it!!! I couldn't believe the lack of service. I persisted and finally they said it would cost 30RMB for the service (everywhere else in china its usually 5-20RMB) I decided to do it, again another rolling of the eyes! STAFF - is it to much to ask to do your job with a smile?? I was very friendly and would not have stayed here if i knew this was the service. Room was clean and the lobby looked ok, although basically empty so not the best place to meet people. I think the room was overpriced but as I said they are the only hostel. Like the other reviewer said, a few reviews down, it's much better just going to a hotel (cheaper) on the same street. Give this place a miss!!!

Liked: Walking up to the hostel, we were a little fearful. However, once you find it, it's a brilliant little hostel. Staff were friendly and polite. Lots of good restaurants nearby and ferry port across to the otherside of the river is 30 seconds away! Would recommend this hostel - it's clean, fun and excellent value.

Disliked: None.

Liked: The staff were very unfriendly. They said i had internet in my room but i didnt have, i asked and they told me "sorry yours is the only room with no internet" very rude and unfriendly after i checked in and paid for my room. They tried to overcharge me 30RMB for train tickets ontop of their 30RMB service charge. Outrageous!! They are the only hostel in Guangzhou so they can be as bad as they want, no other cheap options on hoselbookers but there are many cheaper hotels on the same street. Book elsewhere!!

Liked: The hostel was exceptionally clean and staff were helpful in general. The lobby was an exceptionally relaxing and pleasant space and location, whilst a little removed from the city, was good enough for a few days away from hectic city life.

Disliked: It lacked a friendly sociable atmosphere.

Liked: Staff were helpful and lovely views of the harbour. Not a lot to do in Guangzhou itself but really enjoyed our time here. Clean hostel and plenty of people around. Quiet room at night time which is always good.

Disliked: Would have liked a fridge in the room and tv to have at least one english channel but these are all minor things. We enjoyed our stay here at the YHA and would stay here again.

Liked: I would highly recommend staying at this Hostel , when you look on the map you realize it is on the otherside of the main area area , but it is only five minutes walk to station and couple of stops to main areas. Or you can get on a ferry at the riverside.The staff are very friendly and are always helpful , you can easily make new friends in the comfortable lounge. Outside in the morning you can see local ladies doing excersise and two minutes round the corner you can get some local food etc . I would stay here again if i visited Guangzhou in the future .
