Liked: Definately the slickest hostel Ive ever stayed at, but it is a YHA. Has a great communal area and bar, which makes it easy to meet fellow travellers. Also great location, a short walk from the Metro and right next to the river. Very clean rooms, and pretty decent food.

Disliked: Its a little thing, but they didnt have a clothes dryer, which makes washing and getting stuff dry a hassle. Also, because its a big hostel, the staff are usually quite busy and you dont get as much of a personal feel as with smaller places.

Liked: the rooms were clean and comfertable

Disliked: the staff were the most unwelcoming people we have ever seen in china. we came at 7 am (after we got lost and no one answerd us on the phone for about 15 min!), the guy and the girl that were in the reception were not smiling, looked angry that we came, didnt want to help us.. and when we wanted information about the city they were very rude and even told us to go for half an hour and come back later cuz they are busy! and we didnt have a room so we didnt have where to go and when we wanted to keep our things in the reception they seemed angry that we even asked! overall it was the worst hostel we ever stayed in (after many hostels) and it was only because of the horrible staff.

Liked: Room was clean, shower was good.

Disliked: All dorm rooms are single sex - problem when travelling as a mixed couple. Staff are rude, especially one guy who dealt with us. Food not great and one morning we were told that there was no food that day - no apology or reason. Cats in the reception area and they go everywhere, lounge, reception desk - not good if your allergic. Really hated staying here.

Liked: It was clean and in a good walking distance from the subway. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: They should provide small amenities in the bathroom like soap and a towel and the english breakfast on the menu was not english, the eggs were ok but it came with a limpy side salad and should have had fried tomato and some bacon. There were also quite alot of mosquitoes in the room we slept in.

Liked: If you like socialising or like your privacy, this place is great - large lobby, good value restaurant right there in the lobby area, outside tables to catch the breezes. I wish we could have stayed longer and will definately make this place our home in Guangzhou.

Disliked: Nothing to dis-like - the bed was softer than some but still way to hard for westerners. It was also a long walk to the room as this is a large hostel.

Liked: Very clean and comfortable hostel to stay, would definitely stay again on my next visit.

Disliked: Location could be more central but the subway is fast and efficient so no problems.

Liked: Location next to the ferry. Lots of shops next to the hostel and lively atmosphere at night, but not too noisy around the hostel. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Good coffee!

Disliked: Bar Street was tacky and not worth visiting. Small shops around the corner much better value for a beer.

Liked: Lovely lobby, clean bed. Situation with good view of Pear River.

Disliked: 1) water leak - from the pipe down of the ceramic bowl and the shower tank after shower, in the toilet of room 240. 2) better to close the windows after the room has been cleaned so don't let too much mosquitoes enter to the room. Should be no problem after repairing.

Liked: For that price level, many services were available: breakfast, a la carte menu, books and guides about Guanghzou self service, maps, trips and places to visit advice, internet PC and wifi, transportation information in Guangzhou and to the main surounding areas. The room and common area were impeccable clean and the rooms are quite big with private bathroom: really nice !

Disliked: When I was there most travellers I have met were not really friendly, travellers seem to stay there a very short time (example one day visit to the Guangzhou fair) and were not looking for sharing with other people plus I had one bad experience with a guy in my dormitory leaving his mobile phone ringing every 10 minutes without thinking one moment if he was annoying the others. It is a pity to see that kind of selfish people staying in a collective place.

Liked: The staff were alive and energetic. Quite friendly and open. The rooms were clean. Hot showers anytime (I was in Nepal and India, so I really value this). It has a cafe / bar in the lounge area which facilitates people talking to eachother. Location right on the Pearl River. Walking distance to subway station Fangcun which is on the major line needed for most touristy spots. An excellent hostel overall.

Disliked: The room had a window facing a parking lot which lacked some kind of bars. It would be easy for anyone to climb in and snatch stuff in the room.

Liked: Big and clean rooms, friendly staff. Girls on reception understand English... :)))

Disliked: Wi-Fi works very strange. It is avialible only in the hall on ground floor. But I cannot to connect to it except once (for about 3-5 minutes)

Liked: Plenty of hot water for the showers and warm beds. I met some really interesting people in the common room. the location on the river is nice and its in a relatively quiet area

Disliked: There's no heating so the common room was absolutely freezing. the staff were quite rude and often ignored people waiting at the front desk .

Liked: the room was really nice

Disliked: the hostel is pretty pricy, actually we travelled one month in china and it was the most expansive hostel on our trip, but there was no heating, and guangzhou for this time unexpected cold..so i got sick ...when we asked them for the heating they just laughed and gave us some lousy blankets..the stuff in general was not very friendly or helpful, at least in comparison to all other hostels we have been..there is some internet..but pretty slow...or even for a day not working...so i definetely wouldn't recommend it..there are for sure better places to stay

Disliked: Freezing cold in winter! It's been in the 40s fahrenheit at night outside and it's pretty much the same temperature in the rooms.
