Wonderfully close to the Great Wall, I'd been to a different part of the Great Wall before and didn't enjoy it. The part of the Great Wall that this hostel is close to is beautifully scenic, and not as busy as other parts of the wall so you can get some great pics. The hostel is in a pretty remote, but the staff are great and will help organise trips to hot springs and ensure you have an entertaining stay. Highly recommended.
The property is a classic hudong - family residence compound. It has been fixed up so as to provide hostel-style (primitive) bedrooms, some with very basic showers. it's not for the mainstream tourist. But it is interesting from a historical perspective.

Safe, clean with helpful staff members and within easy walking distance to the metro or bus stops or commercial centres.
Very friendly personnel, helpful. Nice furniture, mix of western and chinese. Not expensive for what you get. I will for sure book again this hotel when I visit Beijing.

Staff are super helpful and very friendly. Good communication before arrival as well!
The hostel is in a characterful Hutong (traditional back street) within walking distance of the Forbidden City etc. It's well presented with a charmingly decorated lobby. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owner is very friendly and helpful. He speaks excellent English and is happy to spend time chatting with guests as well as providing helpful advice about the local area of Beijing. This hostel deserves its high rating.

Friendly staff who speak good english, good location 2 mins from subway. Great Wall tour was a well organised and enjoyable day. The hostel bar is open all day and is great place to meet people if you're travelling alone! I would stay again if in Beijing!
Great location for visiting the city's attractions (many within walking distance). Close to a metro station. The staff were very helpful (this is key in China if you don't speak Mandarin as it can be tricky to get around). We organised through Dragon King to make an excursion to the Great Wall (Mutianyu) which was fantastic, and good value. Nice bar which served great breakfasts. Beds were comfortable with privacy curtains and each had its own nice bright reading light and power socket. Lockers were big enough to take a full-size backpack which is a plus for me.

It was as though we were living in the families home. This gives the place a nice homely authentic vibe to it. Really lovely staff, with pets to keep you company.
Red Lantern House was ideally situated within the communal HuTong area, not far from the main road, as well as not being too far from JiShuiTan station (line 2) and PingAnLi station (line 4 & 6). Staying in a dorm room close to the dining area, using the toilet and shower facilities were not so troublesome. Space within the dormitory room was adequate enough for four guests. The hostel itself is superbly decorated, well furnished and well kept, having character and charm, an ambience you don't expect when compared to the exterior. There were also several fish tanks, a mini bridge and their hostel mascot, their chilled cat. The hostel is well run and well organised, and didn't mind other guests who hadn't booked to stay over, providing they pay of course. Other services were laundry service, which is charged by the half kilo and well as serving up continental style breakfast in the morning hours. Internet was very good. Lend spare umbrellas if it rains. On Sundays they prepare steamed pork buns, which I was invited to help make and later given some for lunch. Very hospitable and was the cherry on the cake for my week long time in the capital.

It has a very nice common area and the food was good. Wifi was okay, not bad for Beijing.
Staff in this hostel is very nice, they patiently answer every question no matter how busy they are. They make it feel like a home. And of course the environment contributes to this as well. Peking Garden is walking distance to Nanluogu Xiang. It's also quite close to Houhai, where the bar street locates.

A small and friendly hostel fairly close to the centre. It's a low key but sociable place to stay while in Beijing.
This place has so much beauty and character. I didn't have much time to relax on this particular trip, but I could easily imagine spending hours outside in the courtyard on a fall afternoon, drinking tea under the guihua tree. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating of my rushed schedule (I had to leave very early in the morning to catch a train).

The location was great (litterally 2 mins from the subway) and it was near to everything in the city (about 15 mins by subway from all attractions). The staff was friendly and even invited us to join their dumpling night for the lanthern festival. They were very helpful even though they spoke broken english. Overall, We were very satisfied and would definitely go back.
