Disliked: first my train to beijing was late 4 hours, so arrived in beijing at 8pm..not to loose my booked room i even called the sweet garden huse to inform that i will arrive later...finally at the sweet garden house we find out that they gave our room to someone else..let us wait and claimed that they had another hostel close which would take us..instead of the romantic hutong area we had to accept an hostel in the backyard of a huge hostel in next to an highway entrance in the sixth floor without an elevator...that night was especially important to me because i spent the last night with my vietnamese boyfriend before i had to go back to europe after studying for one year in china..so result i ended up in a room with really nothing not even a doublebed, dirty, like a prison cell and shared toilets and bathroom ...but had to pay the same price as in the sweet garden house for a double bed room with private bathroom...i just can call it a really bad joke..

Liked: The staff were fairly friendly but the windows did not lock at all and there was a roof outside so that anyone could climb in. When I told the staff they were nice about it but in the end they couldn't fix it and I just got told that "no-one's been robbed before". I padlocked my bag and chained it to the radiator but the worst thing as a woman travelling alone wasn't the worry of being robbed whilst I was out but lying in bed at night not feeling that the room was secure. Also the shower was pretty gross, with mud and hair all over the floor. And with only one bathroom for each gender, you often had to stand shivering in the corridor waiting for the loo as someone was in the shower. The lights in the room weren't dim like someone else said, they were fine to read by. The rooms were a little cold in my stay in September, but not too bad - I wouldn't recommend it in the winter. Oh yes and a lot of the noise from the corridor comes in to the room. It's not a terrible place to stay but it wasn't great and I wouldn't stay there again.

Liked: Owner is a great guy and makes a lot of effort to keep everyone happy, and enjoying their stay in Beijing. As everyone says, the bathrooms are very average and dirty. Other than that though, this is a nice hostel, centrally located, and in a nice hutong. I would happily stay here gain.

Liked: The staff was extremely nice and helpful with arranging tours. They provided a complimentary breakfast each morning and picked us up at the airport for a small price. We really had a great time!

Liked: we liked the atmosphere. the people who work there are very friendly and helpfull. some of them even became friends. it felt very safe. i would not have any problems sending my 13 year old daughter there, because it is so safe. it also felt like being at home. this was a very nice hostel.
