Liked: I liked it because it`s very near the subway station and in an excellent location. I stayed in a private ensuite room with my boyfriend. We had a great time here. All the staff is great and they even have a driver who can speak English! The room was very clean and tidy. The bed was fantastic and toilet great. No complaints about anything! Amazing 15 days we spent in Beijing... Red Lantern helped make them unforgettable!

Disliked: nothing really.

Liked: Clean rooms with a really nice courtyard. The staff were very helpful and the location was in a nice Hutong with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. I would go back here if I visited Beijing

Disliked: It wasn't very busy at the time but as the walls are quite thin it may get a bit noisy in the rooms during the day if it was busy. The staff gave us a room a bit away from the main courtyard though. I would take the metro from the airport bus drop off though as we took the bus the wrong way and it took a long time to get there anyway due to traffic

Liked: The staff was very helpful and friendly. I showed up without enough money to check in, and they gave me my room key and let me settle in before I went off to find an ATM. The building is nice and traditional.

Disliked: It wasn't really clear from the website that the private rooms don't have en suite bathrooms. The shower was only lukewarm, which is hard to deal with in December.

Liked: It is located in old district of Beijing and it has its own charm.The place is very clean and the bathrooms are spotless.

Disliked: The laundry was 10Y per kilo!!! Outrageous!!! (normally we paid 7-10Y per loading in some places it was even for free but here in Red Lentarn they made the service "exclusive").

Liked: Nice and calm atmosphere. Common areas perfectly decorated. Clean rooms. Cheap dinner.

Disliked: I do not recommend the Opera they offer. Really not worth it. Travel to the Great Wall is a little expensive, but lunch is included.

Liked: It had a very authentic feel to it, and all staff were extremely helpful

Disliked: It didn't quite match the expectation I had from the photographs on the website which was a shame, as the photo's made it look more appealling than it actually was. But it was still great value for money.

Liked: Apart from the map, everything was correct.

Disliked: The map in the description is incorrect. It takes to a creepy park. Tha actual location is between two subway stations: Ping'anli and Xinjiekou.

Liked: Everything! The staff were always so willing to help answer questions and give advice on what to do and how to get to places on the cheap. It made getting around in Beijing much easier.

Disliked: There was little to dislike.

Liked: The atmosphere of the inside courtyard was nice. Lots of water, fishtanks and table space.

Disliked: The biggest complaint I have is about the cleanliness of this hostel. I have traveled several times in China and stayed in a variety hostels, and this is the dirtiest I have stayed at so far (out of maybe 10 different hostels). The showers were full of hair, and there was so much dirt and dust behind my bed that it wasn't worth picking up the sock I had dropped back there. In addition to the generally unsanitary feel of things, I also found the common area very dark so I had to go to my room to read or work on my laptop. The darkness, along with a lack of comfortable seating in the common area (only benches and tables available - no couches) didn't promote the kind of relaxing hangout feel I've found at other hostels in China. When I return to Beijing I will try another hostel. Dissappointed.

Liked: The courtyard area was a wonderful place to relax and hang out. The tour they offered to the Great Wall was excellent. Great blend of support and independence. Good lunch as well.

Disliked: The staff was less helpful than I'd desired. They only seemed willing to help book their officially offered things. They weren't able/willing to book a taxi to the airport bus depot - only straight to the depot. The same thing for helping us figure out how to take the public bus to the Great Wall - simply not helpful.

Liked: Very well located in the "hutongs" Xicheng district. Easy to visit the surroundings by foot. Close to Houhai lake with many restaurants and bars.Very nice and typical "chinese atmosphere".
