Liked: Nice traditional building and patio, great location (5 min by taxi to Houhai). It's nice to spend an evening in the public areas and to have dinner there (very cheap and tasty). However it can get noisy because of some people watching TV in the back yard. Furthermore, we stayed in an ensuite and the bathroom was very uncomfortable - the toilet is right under the shower.

Liked: It exceeded my expectations. The ensuite rooms are really nice with great showers and comfortable beds. The A/C was crucial in the middle of summer. The staff was very friendly in both locations. I'd definitely recommend this place!

Liked: Really cozy courtyard located in a typical "shady" hutong neighborhood of inner Beijing. Charming interior decoration, friendly and helpful staff. All that you can wish from a backpacker hostel and more. Highly recommendable.

Liked: staff very friendly and approachable extremely helpful with very good english, helped us with travel, leaving our bags free of charge for the day and made suggestions how best to spend our time without pushing guided tours etc

Liked: First of all, I could feel the atmosphere of China at the house. It was a good experience to foreigners like me. And the facility was good enough to stay for a few days. Although the place is a little bit far from Old Place museums, downtown etc, I highly recommend the house!

Liked: Extremely charming hutong location, terrific staff. I did the Mutianyu Great Wall trip and the acrobats show, both of which were outstanding. The only knock is that Red Lantern is a little far away from the action and rooms are a little loud, but for $30 you'll be hard-pressed to do better than this gem. PLUS they sell large beers for a mere 60 cents!

Liked: The location, easy to access city buses and good location to a reasonably priced shopping area. Right in the middle of the Hutong area, within easy walking distance of the subway too. Good western menu. Easy to book tickets to events. They also booked tickets for us on the train before we arrived in Beijing and that was also easy to organise payment. Would stay here again in the future for sure.

Liked: The guesthouse is really pretty, the courtyard and social area are full of character with plenty of red lanterns and beautifully maintained plants and flowerbeds creating ambience. The staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed in a dorm room which was basic but clean. It`s not a wild backpacker hangout by any means but it`s great for a peaceful stay. The location is good, the metro is about twenty minutes walk and buses to pretty much everywhere are on the street outside. The area is really nice, with lots of little hutongs and good places to eat cheaply and well.

Liked: I stayed in the East Yard, so I can only speak for that location. Common areas are great! Nice environment outside and inside. They had ducklings and chicks running around when I was there, very cute. Food is tasty and well priced, people very nice and helpful. I had a private double ensuite room. Clean, comfortable, average room, but the common areas are really special. 24 hour hot water!

Liked: Great place to stay! The walls are a bit thin (we could hear snoring) and breakfast service was a bit slow, but overall it was a fabulous experience. The hostel sold water and beverages at very reasonable local prices, and we paid 30 RMB for 4 days' worth of breakfast. They also helped us book tickets for a kung fu show and told us which bus to take to Tiananmen square.
