Liked: Staff were amazing. The style of the building is quintessentially chinese in a small hutong tucked away in the streets of beijing. A great experience.

Liked: We stayed in a private double room not in the main hostel, but a few minutes walk down the road. There was a lovely courtyard outside with tables and chairs where you could sit and chat to other travellers and the food that the hostel served was fantastic value for money, really good quality and very cheap! The staff were very friendly and helpful and pretty much there 24 hours a day, i would definitely recommend the Red Lantern Hostel.

Liked: The minute i arrived i liked this place, maybe it's Feng Shui if you buy in to that.Staff very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, the surrounding Hutong is a great place to see a different side of Beijing. I found the local people to be among the friendliest people i encountered in China and nothing like the "City Type's" in the rest of Beijing. Totally different pace and attitude. The food was very good and staff will recommend a local restaurant where 6 of us feasted for £20GBP beers included! A nice 30 minute stroll to the Bell Tower via Hou Hui Lake give's good access to the Forbidden City if you like a walk.I can't speak highly enough of this place as i met some great people here of all ages and walks of life and had a great time.

Liked: it just misses the little things that make you feel at home. there's not really a place to recline and enjoy the place, or just even get a water refill. the price is good, but you pay for everything else, you don't ever get things included. it does the job of a hostel - we were at the end of our trip where all the other hostels we'd encountered in china, included so many extra things that made it special. then when we arrived, everything was needing a deposit and wasn't really accessible without a fee. so its a good place as a whole, but just not our favourite...

Liked: We stayed at the 2. Red Latern-House.Good: Nice old huton-house, frieandly and helpfull people. Good for familys like us with two children 2J10M and 5.5J old. They rented us a baby-buggy for use in the forbidden city.Bad: Hard to find, No taxi-driver knowed it and the telefone-number was wrong.

Liked: The Red Lantern House have done themselves proud, friendly helpful staff, nicely decorated, and well located near the Ping' Anli metro stop. Free wireless internet, good (if slightly overpriced) food, and plenty of shops and restaurants in the vicinity. Would definitely reccommend to other travellers.

Liked: Nice character of the place and decoration. ok food and big Tsingtao for 4 yuan ;). Free breakfast requires sth to add, not to be hungry in a while. West Yard is pretty close to the metro station. Room was clean. The only disadvantage was pretty acoustic walls. Evrething was ok.

Liked: There are 3 branches of this hostel with 3 different characters, and you wouldnt know which branch you would be arranged for the stay until check-in. So I would say the photo posted on the website is not very justified....Anyhow, their staff and services are great.....!!

Liked: Great atmosphere, good food and a lot of choices. A bit hard to find the first time, but good connecrtions everywhere. Not cold even in the winter and hot showers around the clock. Also arrenging trips and booking train tickets worked out very easily. Laundry service is great and cheap!

Liked: stayed at west yard, which is just few minutes walk from the nearest subway station Ping'anli (line 4), and whole lot of bus stations outside. It's situated just off the main street, but it could be quiet at night when the shops are closed. Found it inconvenient to look for a place for breakfast and dinner coz the restaurants nearby are quite expensive (for a solo and on budget backpacker like me) Found one 'within my budget' restaurant, which is about 10 - 15 minutes walk from red lantern (which could seem far when you're back in the evening, tired and exhausted), and ate my dinner there almost every night. Well, maybe it's just because i didn't explore enough of the nearby places. Otherwise the environment inside the hostel is great, where i sit at the lobby to write my diary almost every night. Only two computers to use, RMB 6 per hour. No lockers provided inside dorm room. And difficult to do laundry by ownself unless you wash it at the basin in the bathroom. Or pay a price (forgot how much) for laundry service.

Liked: I can feel the hutong's atmosphere around the area. The local life is the real taste in Beijing. If i visited BJ again, I definitely will stay here again, although I have to stand for the bed which I can feel the wired underneath. (P.S. No more shop "Queen Dairy" at the corner of the hutong, instead, it's the Japanese fast food shop now (Nov.4)!!!
