Liked: Traditional Hutong feeling, with a quiet courtyard and very nice rooms. The part of the hostel we stayed at is close to a metrostation, so it was easy to get around. The free breakfast you get if you pay for the five days stay when you arrive, is very tasty but a bit small. We stayed for 9 nights, and we really recommend this place!

Disliked: The food you can order at the hostel is very salty, and we suspect they use artificial salt (common in china). No Internet in the rooms, only in the common area. The old houses are not insulated and stepping barefoot on the stone floor when it is about 10 degrees C outside is a really cold experience. The air is ok, though, thanks to the mobile oven, heating lamp in the shower and a/c.

Liked: We loved the fun, family atmosphere of the hostel and it's central location. Easy acess to buses, trains, taxis and just to walk and explore . Great shopping nearby and lot's of fun exploring the back street markets.

Liked: beautiful place with a great location. the trip to the great wall was perfect especially the early timing as there were no other people on the wall and there was still time in the evening to discover beijing.

Liked: The atmosphere in Red Lantern is great. It was very clean and has hot water.

Disliked: The location is just ok. Everything can be reached by subway or bus, but there are only average shopping experiences within walking distance- nothing that merits a trip to Beijing. The food there is nothing spectacular and probably not worth your money when there are pretty good restaurants around with the same prices.

Disliked: As the property is a kind of "open space" that is the very nice place, there are some problems with heating. It is ok, but could be more warm in cold days... but it is enough.

Liked: Staff are nice, the design of the common room is great and the location in a hutong is a must.

Disliked: We stayed at the Red Lantern House a few days in December, so It wasn't the touristic season. The place was great, but quite cold. However, there was a heater in the room, but the common room was cold.

Liked: Free breakfast when we booked 5 nights in a private room, and was nice. Nice location in hutong, lots of food around. close to 3 metro stations and buses to attractions around the city. near to hou hai bar street. staff were very helpful and nice. I recommend the great wall trip at mutianyu, includes a descent breakfast and lunch, transport and entry to wall. When you get there, i suggest paying the extra 60yuan for cable car up and slide down..really fun

Liked: good atmosphere

Disliked: when i email them to change the booking date for ensuitedouble room, they said rooms are fully booked and ask me to change to two single room. but when i check the availability in your website, rooms are still available, so i email them and ask, their reply is ask me to be flexable! if there are still rooms, why should i be flexable to change from one double room to two single room and pay double?? this experience is really bad.....

Liked: Stayed in the east wing and loved it's cozy common room with well-stocked drinks fridge and yummy but affordable freshly-prepared food.

Liked: Booked initially for 2 days and stayed for 6 days. This hostel in bejing hutong was authentic far away for the modern part of the city. The rooms were clean and corectly furnished. The staff was very helpfull and spoke english. Their trip tour offer (ex. great wall) was good and in a correct price range. Overall rating for my stay was very good.

Liked: very clean private bedrooms and bathrooms ,nice communal space,good choice of food in 2 locations of red lantern that i stayed at.

Disliked: dorms a little cramped,breakfast very tiny and Euopean prices,museli consisted only of oats...

Liked: The place is nice and clean. I stayed in 4 bed dorm. It was a bit loud, because the street is outside and a pretty noisy restaurant on the other, so don't forget youe ear plugs! The showers were ok, water came with good pressure. Beds were a bit hard, but comfortable. I didn't see any kind of bugs there, thats always a good sign.The place is ok value for your money (I paid 60y/night). They have nice breakfast choises for app. 25y. everything from american to swiss breakfasts.The Hutong area is a nice way to see how the Chinese live, it's not too far away from the subway, so it's easy to move around.

Disliked: I think they should have better derections on the website. It's easy to get lost in the hutongs!

Liked: It is a very pleasant place and the staff tries very hard to be accommodating and helpful. Its only a few blocks from the metro which makes everything easy to get to.

Liked: The unique place, inside of some old small roads, with plenty of low cost restaurants and shops.

Disliked: I didnt like that I had to pay for toilette paper and, the towel! But besides tthat it was a very good hostel/

Liked: I loved the appearance and character of Red Lantern House. I also liked the feeling of safety and security of being located away from the main road.

Disliked: Some guests chose to sit in the courtyard and talk loudly when other guests were sleeping in the adjacent rooms. It would be a good idea for the staff to place notices on the tables requesting guests to consider others who may be sleeping.
