Liked: My sister and I had been in China for 5 weeks, part of the time in a rural poverty area, and the friendly, English-speaking staff was a welcome to us from the very beginning. The conditions in our room and the amenities provided far exceeded our expectaions. Each day there was a thorough cleaning of our room. Anyone considering going to Beijing should stay at the Far East International Hotel! I will definitely come back.

Liked: it has a shop, internet access, bar, and restaurant that keep excellent hours. Also you can use their tour office to book tours or even arrange a taxi to/from the airport for a good price.

Liked: The location was excellent (walking distance to Tiannemen Square), if confusing due to the winding dirt alleyways. While the Beijing Far East felt a bit impersonal (really more like a 2-star hotel than a hostel), it did also have good facilities--the restaurant had a pretty extensive menu and offered packed lunches, the tour desk was convenient, and the coffee bar in the basement (complete with cushy red-booths for a disco-y feel) was a nice place to recharge in the mid-afternoon.

Liked: We really liked the location. We prefer to stay in places that haven't become completely tourist-ized and the flavor of this neighborhood was fairly intact.

Liked: It was very clean and comfortable with lots of different services.Most of the staff were really nice, especially the cleaning ladies and the ladies who arranged the tours but some of the actual receptionists didn't know a lot of English and didn't really understand anything.
