Liked: The cafe is very comfy and homely - great after a long day.

Disliked: Very bad internet, not availible in most rooms and difficult to do skype video call even in lobby. One shower and no western toilets But for the price I wasnt complaining

Liked: The hostel is in the city centre, close to metro station. The rooms are clean and cosy. They sell snack and coffee, and the lobby is a really nicely decorated area - makes you want to stay here for along time. Internet works without problems.

Disliked: i Only one shower, however, I never really had to wait.

Liked: We liked the location near the metro, WuMart, bakery and McDonalds. Two computers near the entrance are very nice to check your email fast. Different trips available at the hostel to the great wall for example. In the room we had a very good working airco with cold and warm airflow (very nice to fell asleep with 30 degrees of Celsius). Very clean hostel.

Disliked: WiFi was not working with our cellphones. We felt the springs of the mattress. There was only 1 shower for everyone, but this was not a problem for us because we haven't been waiting at all. There were two shared toilets which were gaps in the ground (not so nice for number 2).

Liked: location, very central. bathrooms very clean. very helpfull staff; very nice atmosphere in the lounge bar.

Disliked: - we booked "double room or twin". I confirmed by email 2 weeks before that we wanted the double bed. But when we arrive the staff said that they would do their best in the coming days but the double bed was not available. During the 5 nights after no double bed available neither :-(. - bar a little bit expensive, but very good ( nice Mojito :-) - only one shower for shared bathroom... sometimes need to do the queue...

Liked: I liked the atmosphere in this hostel. It looks like a really lonely planet type of place.

Disliked: Part of the staff was really rude. The girls who were present during the day are really nice, but the guy in the evening is a disgrace to himself. Very unfriendly, he misses empathy for his customers and was even wispering behind our backs when we were using the internet. An awful person, which made us leave the hotel.

Disliked: in our room WiFi was so bad, we must take notebook and go to the lobby to talk by Skype. And, of course, only 1 bathroom cabine - it's so uncomfortable... :)

Liked: clean.safe.good location.

Disliked: i never heard of the word, kind of hello,thankyou,byebye,sorry... from the all of staffs. also they looks like upset of something. never smile. if i could i'd like to give to them 'haha'. and doing like police officer when i was check-in. the room is really cold. and if you get a room at the undergrond you can hear all of water and flush sounds from the bathroom. oh. sometimes it's really convenience. you don't need to check when you are going to take a shower. just open your ears. there's only ONE shower room.

Liked: 161 is a premium hostel in Dongcheng - a great location in Beijing. The double I stayed in was competitively proced, offered a spacious room with a decent bathroom in the curious Chinese style - a glass partition and door. Fine if you're in an established relationship; damn awkward if not. The room was clean, the food offered looks great but is a little more overpriced than usual.

Disliked: The map and instructions are plain wrong on this website. This appears a common problem for hostels in China, so it would be unfair to mark 161 down on this basis, but just beware. The staff won't win prizes for warmth and hospitality, but this is more a reflection of the apparent lack of a customer-oriented business attitude in China, I suspect on cultural grounds, so again, this negative doesn't set 161 apart form any other hostels in the area. The only real criticism then is the lack of atmosphere - there are far more lively hostels in the locale, if this is your bag (if so, try the 1 Hai). It's a utilitarian place to get some kip, just don't bring your drinking/partying suit.

Liked: It's a nice place to live and the placement is great cause the bus stop is just at the doorstep and the nearest metro station is just a walk away...the night street was amazing and so was the fellow guests at the hostel..eatries were just around the corner and enjoyed them thoroughly...

Disliked: i have only praise for them

Liked: It has a brilliant location, very close to dong si metro station and very close to a supermarket - brilliant for a cheap breakfast. The rooms and clean, in fact the whole hostel is very clean. Very pleased with out stay

Disliked: There is only one shower if you are sharing a bathroom. This isn't too bad as I have only had to wait a few times during my stay as everyone has different routines.

Liked: Big room, very convenient as near Dongsi subway station (just out of Dongsi and turn left, then turn left again at the intersection, walk about 200m then you'll see the lane, 161 hostel just on your left. Outside quite a few restaurants. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside is light in the bathroom not enough. Value for money.

Liked: nice place, close to metro. it is a bit of a joke only having 1 shower and 2 squat toilets. i did find the staff werent that helpful if u want to do things independently, i think they would prefer u to take one of there expensive tours. one guy on the desk was good the rest were pretty hopeless

Liked: At first, we booked for only one night but after we checked in and met such friendly staff, we changed our mind. We ended up stay here for 4 nights. The staff is very nice and helpful. The room we stay has attached shower/toilet and it's pretty clean. Location is also great because it's so close to the subway station (Dongsi), and located on main line/road that can connect to many parts of the city. Local restaurants in the same alley are also nice. Would recommend for ensuite room rather than shared bathroom/toilet because we noticed that there is only 1 to be shared and not so nice.

Liked: Overall good place. Have to note that the public bathroom has toilets on the floor, which are common in China but can make foreigners unconfortable. Also, they require some deposit, which is uncommon in hostels. Anyway, not really disadvantages, just noteworthy.
