Liked: Nice location and atmosphere, has a little cafe inside and courtyard. The plants make it very welcoming. Banana smoothies at the cafe are really nice. Water is cheaper to buy from the hostel than anywhere else I could find.

Disliked: No air conditioning in the lobby. The computers were almost unusably slow, and the one computer which could print would just freeze whenever I pressed the print button. One male and one female bathroom plus a mixed shower block for the entire complex seemed inadequate to me but I actually never had to wait to use either of them. A bit of a walk if you're staying on the second floor though.

Liked: For infomation:If you not want to go on tour to the Great Wall (part: Mutianyu). You can go to subway station: Dongzhimen (line 2) from there you can take a public transport bus. Line 936 (16yuan) is going directly to Mutianyu entrance. Its only leaving at 7, 8 and 9 AM outside the Dongzhimen bus station and take 2 ours. If you miss the 936 you can take line 916. This line (11yuan) depart every 5 minutes inside the busstation. After 1 our and 20 minutes you will be in Huai rou area. Jump of the bus and take a taxi/minibus/prived car (20 minutes, prox. 20 yuan a person) to the entrance.For back:Bus 936 is leaving at 2 and 4 PM or do the same with 916 the other way around. We did the trip today, the bus is okay enough and this part of the wall is really nice and less touristic than the badaling part.

Liked: i met some really cool people there - which was the biggest upside of the place

Disliked: the staff there was essentially worthless. they were not nearly as helpful as staff at other hostels i stayed at in china. they didn't know alot of things and weren't able to correctly write down places/addresses in chinese for us. having them find out what time the bank opened the next day was also a chore - with internet.

Liked: We arrived having booking a double room with ensuite two weeks in advance. We were told on arrival that we could have not have the room that we had booked as someone had decided to stay an extra night "and they didn't want to ask them to move rooms" - not a good start. If a booking has been made, a hostel should honour that booking! They put us in a triple (no double bed) miles away from the bathrooms.When we did get our double room ensuite it was clean enough; beware though, the bathroom wall in our room was just glass! No privacy at all. The shared bathrooms have separate toilet blocks for male/female but shared shower cubicles.

Disliked: The tours they were advertising were much more expensive than other hostels. Try going down the road to Leo Hostel for a much cheaper and by all accounts much better Great Wall trip. The staff verged from the sublime to the ridiculous - either very helpful or entirely rude. At $30 a night we were expecting much more than what this hostel us gave.

Liked: atmosphere was quite good, most of the stuff was very helpful and friendly

Disliked: unfortunately not everybody was nice... and i booked 3 nights and got only two. they gived my bed to somebody else who were already there and stay longer. so they brought me to another hostel which was more expensive. dislike. but everything else was good!

Liked: It was in a cool old building with a funky and lovely inner courtyard. There were several common spaces such as outdoor tables, inside tables, inside couches, and DVD room. It was close to everything and offered a lot of tours and local information. The staff were always available and helpful. For being on a main downtown street, the rooms were pretty quiet as long as they didn't directly face the street.

Liked: Location was great, breakfast menu was really broad and reasonably priced, wi-fi was great.

Disliked: I booked a twin room on behalf of myself and a friend. Our room was IN the courtyard, which meant we had to have curtains closed the whole time and were woken up by people having breakfast and people staying up late. People had to move their chairs for us to get out of our room. We had our own bathroom but it was entirely glass, which meant absolutely no privacy for the person in the bathroom. Staff were OK, but not too helpful - we stood looking at menus for 10 minutes while they watched us before we called them over and they told us that the kitchen was closed.

Liked: Stayed here for a week and i liked it ! Very nice location. The staff is really helpful and kind, speaks really good english. If i go back to Beijing, for sure i'll stay here again !

Liked: This property was the best place I have ever stayed out of all of the hostels I have booked in other countries through hostel bookers. The staff is exceptionally helpful, patient, and friendly. I was extremely thankful to have such wonderful people helping us find places to visit, navigate the city and laugh at our stupid jokes. The hostel was in a very good location, very clean, and very accomodating, but more than anything, it was the staff that made my stay at Qianmen extraordinary. In particular a staffer named Johnny was exceptionally helpful. He was very patient in explaining things, very competent and extremely nice. He even took us to an outdoor market and didn't get mad when we made jokes about him. Helen was also very competent and nice.

Liked: Excellent location just south of Tianamen Square. Area around it great for budget travel as there are locals restaurants, dumpling vendors, supermarket etc all on your doorstep along with other hostel bars. On main road, easy to find, yet the courtyard is not facing the main road. Plenty social areas but mainly the outdoor courtyard is used. Very friendly staff, all speak good English. Decent food if you're feeling lazy but you can also eat food from supermarket here too.

Disliked: If our room faced onto the courtyard it could be a bit noiser at night but the hostel is great.

Disliked: I have seen several rooms, of the 5 rooms I saw there was only one room that was pretty dirty. I think it was B116, the room is near the street so there is a lot of noise and smell.

Liked: Location is very good. About 10 min walk from tianmensquare.

Disliked: Nothing really to dislilike, bathroom could be more clean but is was okay.
