Liked: One of the best hostels during our journey. Old villa on the top of the mountain with very lovigly designed and large rooms (and good beds). Excellent breakfast with fresh fruits and fresh made orange juice. You can take the breaksfast on the beautiful terrace with lookout on the harbour. Very nice and helpful staff, who speak English and German and had good recommendations for restaurants.

Disliked: The district on the foot of the mountain is not that nice and during the night you don't feel super safe down there.

Liked: Felt like staying at your own private vacation home. The staff is very helpful, but doesn't follow you around and gives you your own space. Very quiet. Beautiful views of the harbor and the rest of the city. Great breakfast. Comfortable beds.

Disliked: While the views are incredible, the location leaves much to be desired. A bit of a trek to get to where most of the restaurants and sights are in Valpo. Impossible to find a cab from there, so you have to do considerable amounts of walking, especially after 10pm when the ascensores (elevator people moving things) close. Other than the location, the place is great.

Liked: Very helpfull and nice people who run this hostel. Fresh fruits for breakfest, beatiful room for reading or using internet for free. Clean bathroom and room with a nice view to the port. I felt as I was home.

Disliked: The way home late in the evening is not pleasent, unless by taxi.

Liked: Great location. The staff will do everything they can to make you feel at home and are a great source of information about the city. Some of the rooms have a great view of Santiago.

Liked: I cannot think of a better B&B I have stayed in. The rooms are beautiful, the view and location are jaw dropping, and the hosts are gracious, helpful but not overbearing. Outstanding.

Liked: The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. Trini spoke very good English and gave us great advice about how to get around and places to visit. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated and furnished and had a great view of the harbour.

Liked: On arrival we were met and welcomed by Trini, one of our hosts, to this historic house with ample atmosphere. We were shown to our room, very clean with crisp white linen. The room had a stunning view over the harbour, the greater Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. We met Ale, Trini's husband and co-owner, later. Both are really fiendly and helpful and offered good advice wrt our stay.Breakfast was ample with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit and feshly baked rolls, jams and coffee.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anybody.

Liked: This is one of the most spectacular settings imaginable in terms of views--an incredible vista over Valparaiso harbor and beyond.. Everything about the hostel is perfect, save that it's in an area with virtually no restaurants or commercial services, and we were warned by one and all that it could be risky to venture out at night--because of the risk of petty crime (pickpockets and such). The Concepcion/Allegra area is a lot more lively and beautiful. But... the wonderful welcome and amazing views of Casa Hostal 199 can't beat!

Liked: Trini and Ale are wonderful, knowledgable hosts--plus Trini is very fluent in English. The historic house has been lovingly restored. I'm glad I found this hostel.
