Liked: The staff spoke English. You wouldn't think that was exceptiional, but it was. Not many people in Santiago speak English. But I think the staff was Nordic, so that does say something about Santiagoans (is there such a word?) and their English.

Disliked: I asked for a quiet room. I got a room next to the busy street, so it was impossible to sleep without earplugs. It WAS on the 2nd floor, which was quieter than the first (ground) floor, so I was told. The only other choice would have been a room without a window (no air). But the couple who stayed in that kind of a room could hear the hall floor loudly squeaking every time someone walked past. Maybe there are no quiet rooms.

Liked: The double rooms were spacious. I liked the high ceilings. They were clean. The showers were great (I didn't have any problems like some people claimed to have). The staff was pretty friendly and the German guy (I forgot his name) in particular was really hardworking and did his job really well. I have been traveling for over a year and get tired of lazy, unfriendly staff at hostels. It was nice to see him pay attention to even the little details. The other staff was good too, I just remember being impressed by him the most. The hostel was secure and safe. The Asado was fun. I like the "Eco" concept behind the hostel. It was pretty quiet after hours.

Disliked: The only 3 things I didn't like: Some staff (not all) did not replenish breakfast for those who chose to eat later during the breakfast time. If you offer breakfast from 8-10am, you should always have everything available (food, drink, etc.) during all of this time and if it runs out, you should replenish it. A couple times my husband and I chose to sleep in as we stayed out late with some of our friends in Santiago (they eat dinner late there!) and when we had breakfast after 9-9:30am, there was either no hot water or no coffee, or no cereal or all at once.... it's just annoying. I have stayed at hundreds of hostels and the best hostels pay attention to small details like this. Also, one morning someone had spilled kerosene in the hallway as the kerosene heater must have been over filled or knocked over. It smelled horrible and the entire wing smelled like kerosene. Not one staff member cleaned it up. People walked through it and dragged the smell around the hostel. The staff basically waited for the cleaning lady to arrive rather than pick up a mop and clean it themselves. That is pure laziness in my opinion and not comfortable for the guests who have to smell the awful smell. Usually after a certain hour, it's quiet in the hostel (due to house rules). One evening a staff member decided to have some friends over and had a small party outside in the outdoor eating area. This was fine, but our window faced that area and they partied until at least 2am and were loud and had loud music on. I am sure they didn't realize how loud they were and that they were disturbing us, but they did. As a staff member, you would think they would be following the same rules that everyone else has to follow (i.e. quiet after certain hour and be considerate of other guests)!

Liked: very very nice atmosphere and also very clean. the english speaking staff was super friendly and helpful. the hostel has a nice, big kitchen which can be used at any time, also there is a nice chilling-out area outside. they also have a computer which can be used by anyone at anytime :)

Disliked: it is a quiet old building so you can hear what the people above or next to you are doing

Liked: Friendly, helpful staff, quiet, relaxing atmosphere, not a party hostel but comfy common areas and offers an excellent barbeque (Tuesday nights?). Showers were always available and always hot, with good water pressure

Liked: ECO - a great approach to shared accommodation....the kitchen and outdoor areas are set up very well and the place has a lovely atmosphere with bright colours everywhere. the staff were great - it's very secure and has a homey feeling.

Disliked: The only thing was the showers - from freezing to roasting - 'moody showers! I'm sure in te summer it's no big deal but in thw winter a good shower is the main reaso we seek out good hostels in the first place! Overall though - defnitely woul reccommend it,,,,,

Liked: The breakfast is really good with lots of cereals, toasts, fruit, cookies... The hostel has a very good location not far to the street with all the bars and there are supermarkets not far. Common places where comfy with hammock and patio.

Disliked: the double room smelt a bit muggy that did not felt so good. The female dorm is right opposite the reception where somebody started playing guitar at 7 in the morning, better stay in the mixed dorm its further away from reception.

Liked: Nicely situated, close to almost everuthing of interest and close to a subwaystation. Nice and quiet atmosphere. Big room with high ceiling. Very clean showers and toilets. Good kitchen.

Disliked: Nothing. We could even have breakfast at 5:30 AM!

Liked: Bright and cheerful colours, good location and helpful staff.

Disliked: This is not really a place to meet people or a party place. A lot of the people staying here were older, and not into going out.

Disliked: No curtain in our room (no. 28). A bit draughty and cold in common areas. Powdered milk for breakfast.

Liked: The atmosphere of the hostel. It is a very relaxing place with great facilities (free Internet, communal kitchen, BBQ, a communial area with TV which feels like home, close walking distance to grocery stores and the city center of Santiago de Chile).
